ebay...

Whilst I'd still rather have the 50" LCD, lack of space and money has forced me to plump for a "new to me" 28" widescreen tv from ebay. I won it off a lady nearby, and was happy to accept that I was going to have to go and pick it up.

Anyhoo, last Friday I sent her an email saying, how about I come round at the weekend, check that it's ok, pay her in cash and take it away there and then. I've sold items this way before, and it's always been fine; I get the money, no PayPal, and they're happy they got what they thought they were buying. Apparently not for her.

She wants me to pay in advance by cheque or paypal *before* she will arrange for me to come and collect the tv. Now, I'm suspicious at this point. I can't imagine she wouldn't want to accept cash in hand (heck, its a hell of a lot easier than faffing around with cheques/paypal!), so either there's something she feels would make me not pay, or she's just plain weird.

I've said I want to inspect the item before parting with any money, and she's insistant that I pay in advance. I emailed her on Saturday to say that there's no chance at all of me making payment before I see the item, and since then she hasn't replied.

Any suggestions for what to do? I don't want negative feedback as a result of not paying, I just want to buy the frickin tv - if indeed said tv exists! Am I within my rights as far as ebay is concerned to not pay until I'm satisfied the transaction isn't fraudulant (ie. I can see the dang thing)?
