This week some NYTimes blogger posted his Top Ten American Films list. Most of the movies on the list that I've seen are certainly noteworthy, however I think he is missing quite a few. Here is the list if you are interested:
Top Ten American Movies What entertained me most was not the list itself (since it is just some lawyer/blogger/professor's list), but the first comment posted.
Do you really believe American Cinema peaked in the 40s and the one moment of inspiration since has been Groundhog Day?
Ok that’s weird.
I definitely don't think the only "peak" in American Cinema was in the 40s, but I'd say most of the movies from the olden days that have survived popularity this long have done so because they are great, some even works of art. But to me, each decade seems to have a few peaks.
As a kid, I always loved the movie Groundhog Day, but I wasn't exactly a film connoisseur then (barely am now!). Not until it was put onto this list did I ever really stop to think about the concept of the film, so I am going to give it another watch.
Meet Me In St Louis really is quite the musical though.
