Outside, May leaned against the window, the cool glass pressed against her cheek as she looked out at the passing pedestrians. She had arrived several minutes ago, shortly behind Katie, but upon spotting Green already waiting through the window, had decided to give them a moment to speak with each other alone and ducked under the canopy of the building outside instead. Somehow, she'd figured Katie would need it.

To her relief, it didn't seem like they were wasting that moment, either. Katie certainly didn't look happy, and neither did Green, but May couldn't help but smile when she'd noticed his hand on her shoulder. Really, if only he knew... unless he did, which didn't seem likely but was certainly possible. You could never tell with that boy, honestly.

Their fries had arrived, and both were sort of smiling. May took this as her cue to finally show up, and she stepped out of the shadows of the canopy, moving around to the front entrance ( ... )

I don't know...." She trailed off again, both in response to Green's disbelief, as well as his suggestion. Something about it just didn't sit right with her. "I don't think I'm going to go ( ... )

"Nothing wrong with not going," Green said, starting to scan the restaurant; honestly, he was starting to feel out of his depth. "I'm not either."

His eyes lit up when he saw May-she arrived just in time. "May," he said, "Hey." He looked relieved.

He pushed the fries over to May in a silent invitation, but only after he'd snagged another one for himself. "Katie says she's not going," he offered in answer to May's question. Quietly, hoping that Katie wouldn't notice, he gave May a sort of baffled look. He wasn't exactly the champion at cheering up teenage girls. At least May was, um, also a girl. And she was nice. She had to be better at this, right?

It seemed as if she had chosen the right time to come in. Katie certainly seemed a lot more unhappy in person than she had through the window, and it was clear Green was running out of patience and ideas as the sympathetic ear. She briefly looked back towards the front of the store; Brendan was supposed to be coming along in a short while, and she had no doubt his company would be welcome to Green, and hopefully to Katie as well.

May declined the fries for now, appetite rarely present when the mood was so melancholy.

"To the dance?" she asked curiously, giving Katie a small frown and resting a hand lightly on the her shoulder. "But didn't you really want to go? You shouldn't let one person ruin that for you. I meant it when I said we wouldn't let him come near you, you know."

Katie gave her head a small shake as she let out a half-hearted laugh. She felt bad; it seemed obvious to Katie that Green wasn't happy with any of this. She was doing a good job of driving people off, even when she was trying to put on her best face for everyone ( ... )

Eevee chirped happily at May as she also appeared, and flopped down in her lap so that she was now spread over both of them.

Green frowned; he didn't like the sound of that laugh, and it didn't sound like she was being entirely truthful. "What are you worrying about everyone else for?" he asked. "Do you want to go or not?"

Brendan took that moment to walk into the shack, dressed as normally as could be with his two-layered pants and poofy white hat. He seemed casual, all except for the hands he had hidden behind his back, as he scanned the booths and tables alike for May and Green, perking up at the sight of brown spikes and a familiar bandanna.

He ignored the strange looks he received; far too used to them, and approached the table with a small, sheepish smile stitched into place... which only got wider the closer her got to the table.

"Hey, guys. Sorry if I'm a little late... I hope I'm not intruding."

you think YOU'RE late, brendan? ;_; verdoyant July 15 2010, 05:50:21 UTC
"Green's right, Katie," said May, gently. "No one's troubling themselves by trying to make sure that you'll be safe and happy there. The only real troublemaker here is that heartless, conceited, sorry-excuse-for-a-human-being ass--"

Unfortunately, exactly what colourful term she was going to use to describe Simon was never known, as she cut herself off as Brendan made his arrival and instead smiled brightly at him, waving a hand in greeting.

"Brendan! You're alive!"

Katie had fallen silent for a moment; she'd appreciated their words, even if she wasn't sure she fully believed them. It hadn't been out of a lack of trust in Green or May, but her general unease for just about everything.

She'd opened her mouth to respond, but was quickly interrupted by Brendan's approach. Instead, she let out a slightly relieved sigh. Katie didn't know if it would be the case, but maybe with some luck, the attention would be diverted to him. She knew they'd come for her sake, but she'd only become more uncomfortable with the situation.

Though weak, she offered a smile and shook her head. She hadn't known Brendan before, but he was definitely more than welcome right now.
