you don't mind if I gloss over the gym trainer's battles a bit, right? clearskiesahead November 19 2010, 23:59:30 UTC
Wally jumped slightly at the voice, spotting Lt. Surge from where he was behind the electric fence, quickly giving a nod. "Ah, r-right!"

Yeah, he needed to focus on the battles ahead, and it didn't take him very long to have made eye contact with one of the gym trainers standing by the trash cans. After the battle, as he had Gardevoir using it's Psychic and Shadow Ball attacks on the man's Electrode, the juggler gave a hint that the trash cans were somehow involved in getting the electric fence to turn off to get to the Leader.

The trash cans...? Wally walked over to the one closest to him and looked around it. Is the switch under it or...in it?

Wally looked down into the trash, looking just a little paler. He would have to dig through trash to find the switch to turn the electric fence off? Maybe he should be wearing gloves for something like that, but the trash in the can didn't seem to be anything too disgusting or suspicious-looking, not to mention that he found it unlikely that the Gym Leader would really make someone dig through trash that could potentially make someone sick. So after a moment he dug a hand into the trash can and felt around the bottom--nope, no switch. Guess he'd have to check another, or battle one of the other gym trainers and see if they gave another hint.

Surge witnessed as Wally began to battle one of his trainers, winding up in a successful victory. He rose an eyebrow and glanced down to Raichu, who also observed the trainer's skills in preparation.

"So he's got a Gardevoir, huh? We rarely see those things," he commented to his little electric buddy, whose respond was nothing more than a nod and a 'chu'. Surge then proceeded to fold his arms, an action that Raichu, as usual, mimicked. His eyes were kept peeled.

Wally seemed to get the picture. It was just a matter of letting him figure it all out. He smirked.

"He's doing it a little faster than most challengers. He might just be good!" With a Pokemon like a psychic-type, he expected him to actually be a bit of a challenge. Not that it would keep Surge from throwing hot talk at him or anything.

He was anticipating this fight. He continued to watch, wondering if the boy would get it. The other gym trainers were standing and waiting to the sides.

Wally didn't seem to be paying much attention to Lt. Surge's observations as he battled one of the next gym trainers, once again going with his routine of using Gardevoir against the guitarist's Jolteon and other Pokemon he had. By now, he had gone through about six or seven trash cans, but still no switch.

However, after battling him, as he searched the next trash can, he felt his hand come across something on the bottom of the trash can. Is this the switch?

As he hit, there was a slight buzzing noise as he observed that the switch seemed to have had an affect, but it was still there. Thankfully, after a battle against a gym trainer with his Roserade this time (which preceded to battle with sludge bombs and leaf storms and the occasional sleep powder to make it easier) the gentleman was kind enough to tell him that there were two switches you had to find. After some looking around, he chose a trash can he was sure he hadn't already checked yet and felt around the bottom before he felt his hand move across the second switch.

"Ah, got it!"

As he turned the switch on, the electric fence buzzed before it was finally down, now allowing him access to the Gym Leader. They did it!

Of course, the real challenge still lay ahead of battling and winning against Lt. Surge, but it didn't hurt to feel a little accomplished after battling and digging through trashcans for a while.

Well, that kid was good enough to be able to get through the switches, even if he needed a little bit of help. All that was left was, indeed, the real challenge of fighting Lt. Surge himself and his shocking team of Pokemon. That would surely be a tough one, but Wally might, just might have a chance, he believed. It looked like the kid had some experience. That Roserade and Gardevoir seemed like they held quite a bit of power under their belts, too.

This would be an enjoyable fight. Surge felt his grin grow toothy.

"Hey, kid! You ready for me?" He jutted a thumb to himself. Raichu just so happened to repeat the motion. "The name's Lt. Surge, kid- the Lightning American himself! Don't think I'm gonna go easy on you just because you're a tyke!"

He placed a hand on Raichu's head, to which the Pokemon responded with only a soft spark of his cheeks. He was obviously as ready for battle as Surge was.

"So! You ready? If you need to take a break or heal your Pokemon, now's your last chance!"

"O-oh, alright!" Wally wouldn't of wanted the Leader to go easy on him anyway, so after a quick check of his two Pokemon that had fought previously with some potions he carried, Wally was soon ready to battle the Leader, as he moved to take his place opposite Lt. Surge. He was kind of eager to see what other kind of electric Pokemon there was in this gym that the leader had.

"Alright, we're ready!"

It was on. Surge laughed. This kid was going to have an electric spectacle, needless to say. "Good. No turning back now! Raichu, get out there!"

The electric mouse Pokemon ran for the field on four paws. He then lifted itself onto only his hind paws, his front paws outstretched from his sides in a threatening stance. Electricity generated from within Raichu's cheeks, his gears churning. This was one of Surge's best Pokemon. He wasn't going to go easy on him to start.
