Summary/Notes: A challenge the two sparked: Skitty (and Surge's ENTIRE TEAM) vs. Green's Rattata. Yes, I'm serious here.
The boats dotting the horizon of Vermilion City made for a lovely sight. The water glittered beneath the sun's rays, and the boats, from sailboats to speedboats, floated on by from afar. Quite a sight, Surge would think, to any foreigner to the city. To him, it's a sight that greeted him every single day, and it was still spectacular to him. The sun and the waves, a signal of beautiful things on the horizon.
What an odd symbolization that held for today with a battle on the horizon. Not that Surge was into the idea of thinking something so deep.
He pulled himself away from the edge of the fencing surrounding his gym, glancing back to the building, back to a specific entity nearby. Skitty stood there, her tail wagging in the air with anticipation. Was this just Skitty being energetic, or did it know that something exciting was about to happen? Was it just a mix of the two? He didn't know, but through and through, her spunk was exactly what he was hoping to see. She'd need some guts to handle a battle against a fellow gym leader's Pokemon.
Even if it was just a pathetic little Rattata. Pfft.
"C'mere," the lieutenant ushered the Skitty closer with a hand-wave. The Pokemon complied with a meow and approached, nuzzling up against his leg. "Stick around. He's gonna be here any minute!"
He was more than prepared, too. He had trained the Skitty slightly, as well as giving it a TM... but it was still very inexperienced. Then again, he wouldn't be surprised if that Rattata wasn't that experienced either. He did what he could for now, though.
It was a matter of waiting now.
