Thoughts on quitting my job last April. 2009

I respect most religions (I don't know them all) and those that pursue knowledge and application of that knowledge, especially when they have the best interests of humanity at heart.

I'm probably one of the few Americans who gave up a professional job in 2009 to stay home with my children.  It turned out to be the right decision for our family this summer as the job I chose was too far away and the expense of gas was actually making it less advantageous to work there and be supportive at home for the work that my other family members were doing.   I also need to finish my project for my degree at UIC and I found that working full time and traveling that far hampered my efforts.  I'm looking forward to finishing my project this Fall.  It turned out that it was a good decision because my children's lives improved with me paying attention closer to home.

The girls weren't getting along, but now manage much better,  probably because they were both ill with headaches and flu and growing pains..  Both sons were working and still are, but we only have two cars, and that's all we're ever going to own too, because I refuse to run any more gasoline engines than I have to and drive up the VMT.  We'll manage, we always do.    I know we have three people working, but my husband can take mass transit and does every morning from door step to door step.  We only drive when we recreate because the connections are not as smooth during non commute hours railwise if we want to visit the north side or south side of Chicago, not just the loop.  At some point, I hope to be able to plan and manage my time better so that I can utilize mass transit more.  And I also hope that eventually the train service improves.  From news articles it does look like advantageous transit is being planned and implemented for the near future in the Chicago region..
