The trees swayed in wind that seemed to exist only between them, their branches curled and crooked like fingers aching to catch and scratch at anyone who'd dare venture into them. A mist obscured the undergrowth and roots and lent a certain amount of ambiance to the scene.
There didn't seem to be any life in the forest; all of the trees were dry and gray and no creatures darted between them or within them. Instead, shadows passed throughout the woods.

Toya had been exploring the woods near Penguin Park when he found a path that definitely had not been there before. Sensing the shift of magic about him, he will the Star Key into the Star Staff and pressed forward, studying the shadows' movement.

Toya stopped on the path, scuh as it was, and held the staff before him in both hands as he closed his eyes to concentrate, sending mystic senses outward after noise and shadows alike.

Daniel had not gone far into the woods when he saw someone very familiar indeed.
"Hey, Toya!" He called, waving - but somewhere in the back of his mind, he braced for something bad. Hell, he didn't even know if the kid would remember him.

Toya's reply is in a soft, almost whispered tone with a heavy air of business authority. "Hello Daniel. I'm trying to concentrate. Give me a few moments."

Another twitch out in the darkness. And rest assured, it is dark even if it wasn't when one entered. In the terrorverse, 21 out of 24 hours of the day are at night and this is no exception.

The youth nodded, then called out loudly to the woods. "Show yourself!"
He didn't think it was going to actually get any results, but it was worth a try.
He closed the distance between himself and Daniel and spoke in a much lower voice meant for his ears alone. "I suggest we keep each other company at short range."

Daniel looked askance at him, then shrugged. If the kid wanted to stick around, then he wouldn't object too loudly. He had to wonder -why- though, since it was pretty obvious, at least to him, that Toya didn't like him all that much.
He rather wished he'd suited up for this little venture; although he wasn't unarmed. "Let's keep moving."

It's not that Toya doesn't like Daniel, Toya's not been all that friendly towards anyone since Yuki died. Of course, getting him to admit that is going to take a bit.
"Moving sounds good. Any idea where this path goes?"
Re: The Haunted Woodsd_dreibergOctober 26 2009, 02:07:56 UTC
"You're seriously asking me if I know my way around a dark forest that just popped up out of nowhere in a place that shouldn't exist?" Dan rolled his eyes.

Toya blinks. "Something tells me we didn't get in this forest the same way."
As he walks down the path, he pulls a book from his robes and opens it to reveal a deck of cards, each labeled differently. The top card is clearly marked "The Light", yet the image in the middle is black as pitch.

What they were from was anyone's guess.

Somewhere in the distance, a twig snapped. There was no other noise in this strange wood, however.

"Something is not right, but the nature of this place makes it hard for me to read the flow of magic."

There is also an echo, a faint mocking laughter.

"I'm not hearing things right? There really is an occasional snap of a twig and slightly maniacal laughter coming from outin the darkness, right?"

"There is definitely something - or someone - out here." He said.

"That's not a good sign."
