Bike Update

Last week, my bike was laid low by a flat and my lack of tools. I fixed the flat, but I guess I put the wheel back on wrong, because it somehow came misaligned and began to rub against the frame of the bike. Ruined my ride into work, forcing me to go slow while expending massive amounts of effort. I fixed it at work, but was so tired that the ride home was still a bit of a limp. Plus I had to leave my rear brake loose.

It looks like the wheel is so ever slightly off true, which is a bit of bad news given that the brakes and frame don't give it much clearance. For now, it's ok, though. I got the brakes readjusted and everything, and I don't hear anything that sounds like it's rubbing or scraping.

Looking at the wheel, it's pretty hard to spot the off-true part, and it might even be the tire and not the rim, so I don't think it warrants taking into the shop.

Anyway, all that meant I rode 1 day last week, then went on a 5-day weekend (Dragon*Con), then started riding again. Despite feeling a little more cardiovascular fatigue than I normally would, I turned in an average speed of 17.9 mph, a new personal best for the ride into work, despite the stoplights not going in my favor.

Sometimes, there is nothing I cherish more than having fresh legs.
