Accent

My ears feel more tuned to my accent than usual. Most people who interact with me claim I don't have an accent, but I think that's because my accent isn't strong and because people get used to the way I sound. I can hear the way I talk compared to your average person in South Florida, though, and I can hear my voice compared to theirs. My vowels are rounder and more mushy...my word endings often have softer consonants on them...things like that. For years, my word usage has been a strange blend of regional slang from North Florida and Georgia mixed with some of the British usage nancyblue brought into my home, so I don't even think about my word choices.

I guess it's just strange to really hear how I sound different from those around me.
