Ok, firstly the request. If anyone living close to me has empty jam jars, please save them and send them in my direction. I have far more blackberries than I can manage (about 1.5 kilos each time I go pick them) and don't have enough jars to put jam in ( Read more... )

We certainly had much more luck with the proper seed potatoes, but that might have been as much to do with the fact that they were the ones we bothered to weed and keep somewhat slug-free and forth.

Bigger pots are probably a very good idea. Each potato plant we had took up a really very large area. IIRC, you planted yours at about the same time as we did, so I don't think that should have been a problem.

Slugs and snail are truly evil. The jury's still out on puppy dog tails but it looks as though they may have been framed.

I've just managed to find a place that sells microscopic worms that you water all over the allotment and they burrow into the slugs and "killz them ded" (it doesn't actually say that on the packet, but it should). It apparently lasts for 6 weeks (from which, I cunningly deduce that they're probably infertile). It's not cheap, but I'm willing to do anything at this point.

As for being wusses, you should have seen when I found one on my head on the drive back from the allotment. It seems I do have a scream to rivel those in the horror films. :s
