Let's talk about fixing stuff real quick: We all have tools for fixing stuff, some more than others, and while it's ONE THING to not have a needed tool, it's ANOTHER THING ENTIRELY to HAVE the tool you need, and to ignore it.

If you need to tighten a squeaky belt in your car, how DUMB would it be to hit the hood with a hammer? Instead, the wiser man would look at the bolt, find the right wrench, and perform the needed adjustment.

DIPLOMACY is one of the tools in everyone's metaphorical toolbox, as is anger. what's incredible about these tools is that they NEVER wear out; instead, they get MORE powerful & precise with time and use. imagine a screwdriver that never got stripped out. how EPIC would that be?

(Back on-point) If your car is squeaking, do you hit it with a hammer, take it to someone who knows, or fix it yourself? Like I said, the hammer route's pretty dumb. That said, if someone is acting in a fashion you don't understand, do you blow up at them, or try to figure out which metaphorical bolt needs adjusting? Me, I try to fix problems, instead of making them worse.

What's surprising is the number of people who, by default, reach for their hammers. It pisses me off that someone can assume they know an entire situation without even asking, and figure a car with a squeaky belt should go to the scrapyard. Wasteful and arrogant. In this metaphor I'm looking at simple, temporary problems being misinterpreted as catastrophic, and people taking the wrong actions, convinced that they're right.

Next time you're tempted to reach for a hammer, try asking "What's wrong?" first. you might save a LOT of problems that didn't have to exist in the first place.

to anyone who read this all the way through and didn't understand it, sorry to subject you to it. what I WILL say is that my girlfriend Magnolia is AWESOME. I say this because she's willing to ask "What's wrong?" when others around her reach for hammers. I wish people would LEARN. Thank you, that is all.
