My summer so far

It's been excellent. In a week, this has been the first time I've been able to just sit down and blog about it. So I'll start with last Friday.

After we finished our last exam, myself and three other friends went downtown for dinner. We ate at this amazing Lebanese restaurant, and we had the nicest waitress. She cracked jokes with us and told us stories and even took a picture of all of us for us. I had lentil soup and traditional rice. The soup was fantastic and the rice was alright, but very spicy. Of all foods, and I'm definitely not a picky eater, spicy is the hardest for me to handle. Anyways, we ordered way too much, so we boxed our leftovers and gave them to a homeless person before heading down to the river to walk around the carnival. We ended up going on the ferris wheel and this crazy loop ride where we did were hanging upside-down at times. I thought my head was going to explode. But it just seemed like everyone everywhere was excited that it was finally starting to feel like summer. Everyone was friendly and smiling and it was just such a great environment.

But the best part is this: we were supposed to then go to the downtown theatre and see The Karate Kid, but when we were nearing the theatre, just a few buildings down The Trews were starting a concert. It was apparently 19+, but they let us in anyways. I love the Trews, and so does one of my friends, and while the other two weren't familiar with their music, we danced around all night, hollering and singing and it was The Best. When the band left for a break, the Beatles' music was playing, so we stood in a circle and sang as loud as we could to all the songs. It was the greatest Start of Summer I've ever had.

And it only got better. Saturday I was just hanging around the house, but on Sunday I left with a friend to visit our other friend who had moved away about 5 years ago. We used to be the best of friends; inseparable. But then we all sort of went our separate ways, especially when we hit high school (when the aforementioned friend moved away, myself and our other friend still stayed close for two years.) We used to visit her all the time, but we hadn't since 2007. So I was secretly pretty nervous about the whole thing, because I thought that it was going to end up being really awkward.

BUT, when myself and my friend boarded the train, we started talking and joking around like nothing had changed. And when we finally got to our other friend, it was even better. We went to Toronto twice on the Go train, which was really fun - we went to Kensington Market, Toronto Island, and just downtown Toronto in general, and we saw Grown Ups, which was the perfect movie for us (I mean, it's about a group of guys who haven't really seen each other for years but then get together in the summer and the rest is history.) We stayed for 5 days, but it went so fast that it could have easily just been one day.

And now here I am, back at the computer. It feels so strange. J.R.R. Tolkien got it right when he said "How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on, when in your heart, you begin to understand, there is no going back?" It's too true, especially when you travel.

And The Trews! (Okay, one of them.) @ the concert we went to. Didn't take this though, click through for the person's flickr.
