Sundays were days that wanted nothing to do with getting dressed, and George hadn't bothered. Still in flannel trousers and a pink t-shirt, his faded dressing gown belted over the top, he made his way to the door and pulled it open.
"Hey, Gin. C'mon in. I just made some coffee..." He caught her in a hug, pulling her inside. He'd hoped that she hadn't had her heart set on going somewhere, because he didn't think he had the energy for it...
George opened the door, and Ginny smiled at him. "Hello, handsome," she said as they hugged. She held up the bag of goodies. "I come bearing gifts...or food," she said and snickered.
She stepped inside and closed the door. George was still in his dressing gown, and Ginny grinned. She had been hoping for something casual and easy. "Coffee smells good. Want to eat in the living room? I can get plates and such."
"Is it too much to hope for blueberry muffins?" He tried to look into the bag, then sighed as she headed into the flat.
"Living room's fine, and I've got it..." He tailed her into the kitchen, picking two plates off the drainboard. Forks and knives just in case. A flick of his wand sent them to the low table by the sofa, and a pair of mugs joined them. He picked up the coffeepot and carried it through.
"So what's new with Gin?" Maybe he could distract her from interrogating him. He filled the mugs, then curled up on the end of the sofa and tugged his dressing gown around him.
Ginny plopped down on the couch while George brought in the plates, silverware, and mugs. She unloaded the bag and placed an oversized blueberry muffin on one of the plates. "What do you know? It's your lucky day. Or else you have a brilliant sister who knows just what you like." She winked at him as she placed a chocolate chip muffin on her plate.
"Nothing terribly exciting, unless you want to talk about my new job," she said melodramatically and giggled.
He balanced his coffee on the sofa arm, then reached for the plate and began picking bits off the muffin. "New job? Who's got one? I'm sure somebody was looking for one..."
He chuckled, licking a bit of squashed blueberry off his thumb. "So? Spill."
"First off," she said as she leaned in to give his cheek a kiss, "thank you for having sympathy on me and taking me in part-time at your shop. I appreciate it. Really."
She bit into her muffin and swallowed before saying, "I don't think it's going to be so bad as far as working for the Ministry goes. Lisa Turpin showed me around on Friday. She's a nice bird. You'd like her if you don't already know her. Anyway, they gave me a mentor," she explained. Then she stopped. "Were you just being polite and asking or do you really want to hear all of this rubbish?" she asked with a smile.
He grinned at the kiss. "Hey, you saved me then too. Kept me from hiring someone off the street part time, just until term started, it was perfect. And appreciate? I appreciate this muffin." He took a bite, then sat back to chew.
He nodded; he knew Lisa. "Nice girl," he mumbled around the mouthful, then chuckled. "I really want to hear," he said, washing down the muffin with a swig of coffee. "It's...what? Reversal Squad? Accidental Magic stuff? Lisa works with Finnigan, yeah?"
Ginny finished her muffin and reached for a blueberry scone. "Who knew you were so easily won over?" she teased. "Feed him and he bows to your command." She leaned her shoulder into his and chuckled.
"Okay, I got a job with the Department of Accidental Magic. I'm the newest trainee for the Reversal Squad. I'll probably get to go on a few missions with Finnegan, Lisa, and Boot, but they're all months ahead of me, so we'll see. Like I said, I got a tour of the department, and they gave me a mentor.
"His name is, get this, Shadford Divens," she said with an overly-dramatic eye roll. "He said everyone calls him Shad, but if I ever called him Shad he would seal my lips together with something called Gorilla Glue and used by Muggles. What the hell is that? Do you think it's something to do with gorillas? Anyway, I think he was joking, but it's difficult to tell. He's probably in his late 30s, but it's difficult to tell. And...that's about it." She smiled and shrugged at him.
George shrugged. "Gotta be fed," he said sagely, picking another bit off the muffin. He hadn't really eaten much of it, but he kept picking and chewing.
"So you'll be out reversing stuff before you know it. I'll try not to be one of your clients. Or victims...whatever..." He picked another blueberry out of the muffin.
"Gorilla Glue? Maybe it's made from them...dunno, really. I could ask Matthew, the bloke who supplies all that Muggle stuff for the fudge and all."
He coughed, spraying droplets of coffee into his hand, then wiped it on his gown. "Charlie moved out? I...was he planning that? Oh, I'll bet Mum's spare..."
Ginny winced. "You didn't know?" Ginny asked. "Shite, I thought I was the last to know everything. You lot don't tell me anything." She shrugged and bit into her scone. "But yeah, Mum was upset, but we all knew she would be. She's dealing fine though. Honestly. She just wants her babies at home and yet she knows we're too old to still be there. She wasn't angry, and she even helped him pack."
"I know, yeah? I walked upstairs to talk to Charlie and to bring him a batch of biscuits and there they were, packing together. It was...odd. Yeah, odd, but nice."
Ginny finished her scone. Then she propped her feet up on the far side of the table, careful not to get her trainers near the food. "So, what's on our brunch agenda? Napping? Eating? Being lazy?" She cut her eyes over at George. "All of which I am completely prepared for."
George crumbled another bit of muffin, then licked his thumb and set the plate aside. "Well, I was too busy napping to write up the formal agenda," he said, settling back with his coffee. "And I'm too full to think about it right now. Guess we're stuck being lazy, as long as it doesn't involve me getting dressed."
"Sounds perfect," Ginny said, settling back onto the couch. She leaned her head on George's shoulder. "Wish I'd worn my pjs, too."
She closed her eyes and sighed, glad that she and George's close bond had never faded away. Ginny was close to her other brothers, but as they had gotten older, their relationships had changed much more.
"Lazy day it is," she said wistfully. "You can throw me out whenever. But at least let me lounge here for an hour. I think Mum wants me to help her scrub the attic floor, and I'd like to put that off for a bit longer."
George shifted, sliding an arm around his sister and sinking a little lower in the sofa. His head fit exactly right on the top of her head, and he sighed. "Lounge as long as you like," he said softly, suddenly very glad for another Weasley in the house. "I've got no floors to scrub."
He curled his fingers through the handle of his cup so it wouldn't slip, then closed his eyes. "Love you, Gin..."

He took another sip of coffee...a careful bite of muffin. "She helped him pack? That's like...monumental."
