He nodded. "I did accuse her of having feelings for him. It just didn't make any sense why she'd get defensive otherwise. She wasn't defensive about the situation--she was defensive of him. And I hadn't thought it before, because I always assumed her run-ins with him were flukes. Always gave her the benefit of the doubt. Hell, I didn't even get to the 'doubt' part."
Then she said she did fancy him. Hearing it aloud stabbed more than Dean had expected. He hadn't repeated it to anyone, not even Seamus. All he'd done was toss him that damned letter, because he couldn't bring himself to say it. Well, at least Angelina already knew that bit. He wouldn't have to feel bad about mentioning it to her.
"She sent me a note...after, and she told me," Dean said quietly. "I think I might have rather not known, honestly. Or not known for certain, at least."
He sighed, staring at the bottom of his empty glass. "But after that night, when she told me about the kiss, I took awhile to think about it. I had to. I mean, she'd told me she loved me

Damn. Angelina listened carefully. She wanted to understand. She wanted to see why the relationship hadn't worked from both perspectives. Both stories had the same center around which they'd been rotating--Flint.
So, Katie had told Dean the truth. She'd sent him a letter. Angelina nodded.
"I suppose you made the best decision you could under the circumstances," Angelina finally said. "I'm sorry you were both hurt...are still hurting." She couldn't swear that Dean still struggled with his emotions toward Katie, but she could see the strain around his mouth and eyes when he spoke of her--so careful and so raw.
"I understand why you chose what you did," she admitted. "And...what I couldn't get Katie to explain seems to have been already explained. You thought there was something odd between the two of them. She said there wasn't. Yet...there was--or is"She did tell me that she had no intentions of dating him though. Said it was a nothing sort of attraction. There would be no relationship." Angelina sighed and shrugged. "At least she's

Angelina nodded and said that his decision was understandable. He'd been pretty sure of the decision himself, otherwise he wouldn't have done it, but it was difficult not to doubt himself sometimes all the same

"Yes, let's have a normal evening," she said. She was glad that Dean didn't treat her any differently because of her friendship with Katie. She could tell that Dean wanted the best for Katie--how he refused to talk rubbish about her. And Katie hadn't exactly bad-mouthed Dean either. At least they were both beig adults about the situation.
She stood and extended her hand. "Didn't you say you wanted to get a few dances in this evening? Shall we?"
Dean grinned and stood, taking her hand. "I could never refuse a dance from a pretty girl."
They moved out to the dance floor, and he realised that he did feel pretty normal. Sure, Angelina was Katie's friend, even if it didn't seem the two were as close as they used to be, but previous to their relationship, it seemed like he'd probably spent more time around Ang, though he wasn't sure why. The thought made him grin a little harder.
"You know," Dean said, chuckling a bit, "I used to be a bit scared of you."
Angelina and Dean made their way to the crowded dance floor. The music was fun and fast, and they immediately fell into rhythm. Dean admitted to being scared of Angelina, and she burst out laughing.
"Merlin, I was scary, wasn't I?" she laughed. "Suppose I was a bit scared of myself as well. Thankfully, I've grown out of that stage...I hope," she added with another laugh.
Dean laughed a bit harder. "Just a little. Well, maybe a lot to some people. But I think I'll keep those names to myself to protect the innocent."
Lifting his arm, he spun her around. Angelina was much taller than most of the girls he usually danced with, sisters and friends included, so it wasn't quite as smooth as usual. He shook his head, laughing all the same. Slow dances were nice, but there was nothing dancing to this sort of upbeat music to get one energised and in a good mood.
"Let's try that one again," Dean said, leading her into the turn again, with much better results.
