Lavender wasn't going to turn down the opportunity for an evening of dancing at Belladonna, and it was even better that it was to celebrate Ginny's birthday. Weasley parties were always fun and she liked getting to know Ginny a bit better out of school these days, even if it was rare for their shifts at the shop to overlap.
James' arm slipped around Lavender's waist as they worked their way through the club to where the party seemed to be concentrated for now. "What first? Drink or find the birthday girl?""
"Um..." Lavender bit her lip, looking around to see if she could spot Ginny. "Let's go for drinks and I'll keep an eye out for her."
Ginny was having a lovely time, and she was so glad so many of her friends had decided to stop by--even for a little while. She left the dance floor after a three-song stint, and she desperately needed a glass of water.
She walked up to the bar and noticed Lavender leaning close and talking with a rather handsome bloke. She walked over to them and smiled.
"Don't tease," Lavender murmured to James, blushing a little when Ginny came over, but ultimately rather glad for the distraction from the... other distractions he was proposing.
"Hi, Ginny," Lavender said with a grin, stepping forward to give her a hug. "I'm glad to be here."
Ginny smiled. Lavender's bloke was very polite, and she liked the mischievous gleam in his eye. She imagined he was playful.
Ginny shook his hand. "Great to finally meet you, James. It's one thing to hear Lavender brag on you, but it's quite another to actually meet you and see for myself. You do an excellent job of making her smile.
"I'll take something non-alcoholic. I'm trying to space my drinks out. Can't be bumbling around before the party really gets going." And because she couldn't remember if James had a place around here or he was only visiting, she asked, "Are you here for the weekend or do you have a flat around here, too?"
Ginny snickered at the two of them. They seemed to be well matched and appeared to enjoy each others' company. "Oh, I'm sure he brags on you just as much when you're not around," she said with a wink. She leaned against the bar and nodded. "Yeah, I'm having a great time. Are you going to hit the dance floor with me for a couple of songs later?"
Ginny sighed, but hopefully it wasn't too loud. She did have her eye on someone, but it was ridiculous to even allow that train of thought to continue. "Wouldn't that be nice?" she said and laughed. "But seriously, surely some bloke will take pity on me and dance with me, yeah?"
"It's your birthday. If there's two things I know it's that tonight you shouldn't be lacking for a dance partner or buying your own drinks." Lavender gave her a sly smile. "And if anyone turns you down, point me in their direction and I'll go and poke them until they give in." She gave Ginny an innocent look. "I can be very persuasive."
"Oh, I completely believe in your ability to persuade," Ginny said with a wink. "Let me finish this drink, and then let's you and I hit the floor. You don't mind, do you James?" She gave him a pleading look.
James pressed a drink into Lavender's hand. "It'll be tough," he said slowly, "but I'm sure I'll survive the separation."
"Don't pine too much," Lavender told him, taking a sip. "But, hey, you can watch my drink." She grinned at Ginny. "Sometimes I forget how useful boys can be."

She stepped back, her arm slipping comfortably around his waist again. "Ginny, this is James Shaughnessy. James, this is Ginny, the birthday girl."
James grinned and held out his hand. "Pleasure. Can we buy the birthday girl a drink?"

James dropped a kiss on the top of her head. "I think I'm allowed to be smug. Brat stole my coffee the other night," he told Ginny.
"I made it up to you!" She rolled her eyes, her attention focusing on Ginny as he turned to order drinks. "Are you having a good night so far?"

She smiled, glad that Ginny was having a good time. "Good. And of course I will. I can't wait." She bit her lip. "You got your eye on anyone tonight?"
