"I'm great," she said. "I'm looking forward to spending a nice evening with friends. It's great to see everyone. We don't all get together that often."
She smiled over at him as they walked toward the sweets tables. "Look at the cake she made me," Ginny said as she pointed. "She's really good at what she does. Plus the sweets are difficult to stop eating."
Ginny picked up a chocolate covered peanut butter ball and popped it into her mouth. "These are my favorite, I think." She took one step away from Oliver, not having realized how close she was standing. It was difficult enough to have sane thoughts around him without touching him and feeling his body heat against her arm. She swallowed and tried to smile. For certain, she didn't want to seem clingy around him. He was probably used to more sophisticated women.
"Save a dance for me, yeah? I'm sure there are others you'd like to talk with for now, as much as I'd like to keep you all to myself," she teased and winked, sorry to feel the pang inside her chest at how real the words actually felt.
"She's brilliant, yeah. I need to stop by and see her more."
Oliver smiled. "Of course, Birthday girl. Can't have the night pass by without at least one chance to dance, now can we?" He leaned in and kissed her cheek quickly before heading over towards the bar.
