Date: Thursday, August 1, 1999 Characters: Pansy Parkinson, Neville Longbottom Location: Pansy's flat, Hogsmeade Status: Private Summary: Pansy and Neville celebrate his birthday a few days late. Completion: Complete
Neville decided to Apparate the short distance to Pansy's flat. It was terribly hot and humid today and he wasn't in the mood for getting all sticky again after the long day of work, especially since he'd got a bit overheated and sunburned despite using charms.
He was a few minutes early since he'd originally left enough time for him to walk but he hoped she wouldn't mind as he knocked on her door.
"Ouch!" he said as she caught a bit of his sunburn. "Lips are great. Arms and the back of my neck, not so much so," he'd been tempted to wear a t-shirt tonight but didn't want to upset her in case she dressed up. It was a good call but even his linen shirt was scratchy against the burn.
"Pizza? I love pizza," he said closing the door behind them.
"It was blazing out there today. I took a bit too much sun," he scooped the neck of his shirt out of the way with a wince to show her. "I probably should have popped into the apothecary for a potion. I'd put aloe on it which helped but I showered it off before I came over."
Pansy looked at his burn and frowned. "Did you try a cooling charm? And something for the pain, maybe? I have a potion somewhere," she said distractedly, wondering what the best charm would be.
"Did you take your shirt off while you worked?" she asked, wondering if the burn was on his chest and back as well. "I would say you don't need me to baby you, but I think you sort of do," she winked, passing him a glass of wine and motioning for him to sit at the table. "Dinner's ready if you're hungry."
Neville laughed. "You absolutely love saying 'I told you so', Pansy," he teased with a grin.
"Thank you, love. I appreciate it," Neville said after downing the potion. "Cold and bath doesn't sound all that appealing," he liked warm baths but a cold one sounded sort of unpleasant. Neville noticed her eyebrow though and raised his own, adding a grin. "Was that an offer to join me?"
"Cold to soothe the burn, silly. Not because cold baths are fun," she teased. "Might just be, but now you'll never know." Pansy sighed dramatically and snuggled up next to him on the couch.
"What sort of things are we going to do in Italy? Have you figured out where the pictures of your parents were taken?"
He waited until she was half way across the room before calling out, "Do too." Merlin, he adored her.
"I think that might make me too chilled. If I'm lucky, maybe you'll agree to rub lotion on me later," he winked at her. If he was really lucky, maybe she'd agree to rub lotion somewhere he didn't need it too. Down, boy, he cautioned himself before he got too carried away with that fantasy. He tipped her chin up to kiss her lightly.
"Aside from what comes with the TerrorTour, I thought we'd just play it by ear." They seemed to do okay with their outings in Scotland using the guidebook to pick places to go. Neville liked that sort of random fun. "I didn't think it would be nearly as nice if every minute was scheduled, as it would be to have time to just relax or do something that caught our eye." Maybe if they took a longer trip next year, they could do that. Assuming she was still here next year, that was. Neville took his mind off of that. He was trying not to fuss too much over that.
"My, my, Mr. Longbottom. That's not very knightly of you, is it?" she said, feigning seriousness.
She nodded. "I like that idea very much. I'm really looking forward to it, and it's only a few weeks away." Pansy tilted his face towards her and smiled softly. "Happy birthday, Neville." Moving her face closer to his, she kissed him gently, letting her lips linger over his for several moments before pulling away. Pansy was eager to try and lengthen certain things they'd done the last time they were together intimately, but noticed Neville's eyes beginning to get heavy.
"Why don't I grab some lotion and rub your shoulders some," she offered, hoping that might wake him up a little.
Neville groaned as he rolled over onto his side. Then groaned again as he came fully awake and realized he'd fallen asleep on Pansy last night after she'd gone to the trouble to make him dinner to celebrate his birthday on a day when he had specifically told her he'd not be too knackered.
He sighed. She was probably angry and had every right to be. He was a rude, insensitive idiot who didn't deserve her. Neville shifted a bit, careful of his still slightly tender skin to stoke the hair away from her face so he could kiss her before she had to get up for work.
Work. Oh, Merlin. He saw the time and left off the idea of kissing for the idea of waking her up quickly. He was really going to be in a hot cauldron for causing her to be late for work.
"Pansy? Pansy, love? Wake up. You're late for work," he roused her.
Pansy tiredly smacked Neville's hand away. "Early. I'm sleeping," she groaned, rolling over and burying her head in her pillow.
After Neville had fallen asleep Pansy decided to make the best of her evening and get some reading done. She ended up staying up far too late, and had only slept for a few hours when Neville woke her up. Of course, now that she was awake, falling back asleep would be next to impossible. Groaning again, she rolled over to face Neville. "I took the morning off," she said, yawning.
"Not so early. It's after nine already," he said shifting her hair back.
She rolled over on her side and yawned in his face as she told him she'd taken the morning off. "Oh. Well, um... that's good. I didn't know. I'm sorry I woke you." Neville felt bad now for trying to rouse her so quickly. Normally he liked petting her awake, since he nearly always woke first a few minutes before her alarm charm sounded. She made such beautiful noises when he touched her while she was asleep. Maybe it was it his imagination but he thought she was always in a better mood when she woke up that way than being jarred awake by the alarm.
"I'm sorry I fell asleep on you last night, too." Neville really was sorry. "Especially after you went to all that trouble."
She opened her eyes so she could roll them at Neville. "It's no big deal, Neville. Relax. You were tired. It happens." She settled herself so her head was resting on his chest before she remembered his burn. "How are your shoulders? Did the burn settle yet?"

"Hey birthday boy," she greeted, reaching up to give him a kiss on the lips while pulling him into her flat. "I made pizza," she said smiling.
"How was work?"
