Everything looked to be in order. Hermione scanned the roof one more time, just to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything. It was Harry's birthday, so she wanted their private celebration to go well. She had been planning this for a couple of weeks, even before he had decided to have the party with Neville. Now that it was finally time, she was nervous that he might have preferred going out to eat or spending time with friends instead of just her. He had agreed, though, and he hadn't seemed reluctant at the idea, so she had to stop doubting everything.

She had picked up his birthday gift after work. She had ordered it weeks ago, but it hadn't been ready for pick-up until today. Fortunately, it turned out even better than she had hoped, so she couldn't complain. She was slightly concerned that Harry might be disappointed in it, since it wasn't magical, but she didn't know if he'd really care all that much. Kreacher had cooked Harry's favorite meal, a nice roast and veg, so she had it arranged with charms to keep it warm. She had a bottle of wine as well as a bottle of Muggle beer, because she wasn't sure which Harry might prefer. She had developed a fondness for a glass of wine with her meal occasionally, but boys seemed to like beer more. If he wanted something else, she could always pop downstairs to get it.

After casting a charm to make the seating area more comfortable, she rearranged the pillows. It wasn't dark yet, wouldn't be for another couple of hours, but she had candles ready, just in case they ended up staying on the roof a while. She hoped that they did, since the thunderstorms seemed to have stopped and the rain had cooled things off. It was a nice night for snogging beneath the stars, and she had plans in that respect, too. It probably wasn't normal to plan that sort of thing, but she had been reading and got ideas, which led to thinking and planning. Of course, something that might happen that changed everything, so she was trying not to dwell on it.

Once she had finished checking everything for possibly the hundredth time, she Apparated to her room. She changed out of her work clothes and put on the white dress that she'd worn to Katie's birthday party so many months ago. Harry had mentioned that being a night when he hadn't had platonic feelings for her, plus it was good for dancing, and she had the wireless on the roof for after dinner. When she was dressed, she went to the bathroom and put on lip gloss. She didn't usually bother with cosmetics unless it was a special occasion, but this was Harry's nineteenth birthday and their first birthday as a couple, so that seemed pretty special. However, she didn't use anything but the gloss because Harry didn't need her to be all made up to want to be with her.

Since they were just having a picnic on the roof, she didn't bother with shoes or stockings. She had on one of her sexier pairs of knickers and a matching bra, so she didn't think Harry would notice the lack of stockings even if he did seem to like when she wore them. He wasn't overly paritcular when it came to that sort of thing, thankfully. She checked the clock in her room and saw that it was almost seven, which was when she told Harry that she'd 'pick him up' for their date. She smoothed down her dress and fussed with her hair before she went upstairs to his room and knocked on his door.
