Penny tried to keep one eye on the shop floor whilst she sat at the back doing some paperwork. Madam Scrivenshaft was in the back room interviewing a young wizard for Penny's job. He was only the second person they'd had interested in the position and Penny was getting a bit worried that they wouldn't find anyone. Madam S could manage for a little while on her own, but not forever.
Penny had been overjoyed when she had heard last week, that she had got the research position at the Ministry. But she was now trying to catch up to everything in the shop so as not to leave Madam S in a spot. The old lady had been so good to her and they had become friends more than just employer and employee. Penny was almost feeling guilty for leaving. At first she had been annoyed that her new job started on a Tuesday. She had wished she started today. Why waste a day here when she could be starting her new job? Now that the day was almost here Penny was wishing it was next week, or the week after. There seemed to be so much to do. So much to leave with Madam S.
Penny looked up from her desk, tucking her hair behind her ears for the millionth time that day. It was still raining outside but at least it wasn't thundering like it had been yesterday. It seemed to fit Penny's mood. She felt a little sad to be leaving but it felt good to have a new job, a new challenge. That didn't mean she wasn't nervous about it. Her stomach growled, and Penny suddenly remembered that she hadn't had any breakfast in her rush to start work early. Maybe she could nip out and get a sandwich?
