Harry glanced at Ron and then back at his pocket watch as they stood in training room #1 with the other trainees. Ernie and Michael were both here was well, but so far, no one had come in to receive them, direct them, tell them what was next. Had he got the time wrong? Had all fifteen of them impossibly got either the time or the room wrong?

He frowned. Ron seemed as clueless as he felt. He just hoped that whatever the mistake was, it hadn't happened on their end. Auror Robards had made it clear that they were to be on time.

Suddenly, the door opened, and a heavily muscled man who was as bald as Kingsley came in, looking as if he were in a really bad mood. Clearly he didn't have Kingsley's temperament. He walked to the front of the room, stopping in front of the chalkboard, and stood there with clipboard in hand and one hand behind his back.

After looking at them for what seemed like ages, holding each of their gazes, he bellowed at them to form a line. Almost comically, they all hesitated a moment.

"Was I not clear? Do I need to speak up? I said, line up!"

Bloody hell; what was his problem? Harry moved quickly to stand between Ron and a bloke he recognised vaguely as one of the other applicants. He cleared his throat and waited as everyone lined up.

When he arrived with Harry at training room #1, Ron looked around at the other trainees who'd gathered in the room. He knew Macmillan and Corner, of course, but didn't recognise any of the others. Stuffing his hands in the pockets of his work robes, Ron wondered if the other trainees felt anxious too.

He didn't have long to think on that; a big man who almost could have been Kingsley Shacklebolt's brother came in, scowling as he made his way to the front of the training room. When he ordered them to form a queue, the recruits looked a little stupefied. The man yelled at them again and the recruits lined up in no order Ron could determine, though he was glad that Harry had chosen to stand next to him.
