He made his way through the park, impressed at the improvements the teams had made to the grounds. It was a beautiful area, and he greeted people as he passed, exuding more brightness than he really felt. Being pleasant was easy, practised. The monument that he was approaching was not going to be so easy to view and remain so well-poised.
The statue was impressive, and it made a statement, even if he wasn't sure if it was the statement he would have chosen. Perhaps in fifty years, the strong image would be needed, but right now it was a bit too...fresh. The faces of the others standing silently around the memorial seemed to echo his thoughts. Still, they'd gotten the important part spot-on.
He activated the magical projection, and a section of names popped up in front of him. He slowly made his way around the statue, determined to look at every bit of the list, to read every name. There were so many he knew--he was almost surprised when recognition kept hitting him, but after a few sections that surprise lessened into a sad sort of acceptance.
"So many names," he whispered, mostly to himself, as he neared the end of his circle.

"Yes," she said simply, focusing again on her dad's name, sighing at the familiarity of his initials.

"I'm sorry," he said, turning to offer the girl a small smile. "I think the seriousness of the moment momentarily overcame my ability to watch my surroundings. I apologise for startling you, Miss...?"

She pointed at the memorial, and his eyes zeroed in on a name very similar to hers. "Elliot Midgen," he read, committing the name to memory. One more for which he now had a connection, even if it was a simple as having met his daughter by chance. "I'm sorry. Seeing them inscribed here makes reality a little more tangible, it seems."

Eloise nodded. "I was just thinking the same thing. It's as if you can't really hide it now, it's there for everyone to see."
"It's nice of you to be here, Minister."

"I needed to be here," he said, shaking his head ever so slightly. "For more reasons than one."
"I'll leave you to your thoughts, Miss Midgen," Kingsley said, giving her a little nod. "Again, it was a pleasure meeting you."
