Daphne Greengrass had spent the majority of the morning penning applications for employment she thought might suit her. Once her hand had cramped from writing so many scrolls, Daphne finished them off and tied them up and addressed them accordingly. She had sent them off from Hogsmeade to their various destinations and headed down the very familiar road to the Three Broomsticks.
While there was really only one person in the world she wanted to see, it was a complete impossibility at the moment. Her brother, Jules, was in Azkaban. And aside from an occasional letter, which would no doubt have been read and analyzed by at least one security officer, Daphne had absolutely no contact with the only person she really considered family or friend in her life.
She had to start from scratch.
Taking in a deep breath of cool air, Daphne braced herself and walked into the familiar pub and headed over to the Floo, where she took a fist full of powder and said firmly "Diagon Alley". A few seconds later, Daphne appeared at the Floo in the Leaky Cauldron and brushed herself off.
She knew she couldn't drink her cares away, but a bit of window shopping and a fag would suit just fine. Heading out into the winter air of Diagon Alley, Daphne lit up with her plastic Muggle fire-contraption and allowed the tobacco to perform its own magic. She relaxed a little as she walked away from the Leaky Cauldron, taking her sweet time peering into windows and marveling over the newest fashions and books on display.
If she had to start from scratch, Diagon Alley wasn't a bad place to start.
