Michael was starving. He'd been busy all morning and hadn't felt much like eating at home by himself, so he stopped in at the canteen before his internship began.

He loaded his tray with stew, some bread, treacle tart and three satsumas. Scanning the crowded room, he spotted Pansy sitting at a table by herself.

"Oi, Parkinson! May I join you?"

Pansy glanced up, smiling as she nodded and swallowed a bite of her stew. "Of course, Michael." She hoped using his first name would clue him in that plain Pansy was just fine.

"Come out of Arthimancy all right?"

"Thanks, Pansy." He settled himself into a chair. "How's the stew today? I'm hungry enough to eat one of Hagrid's magical creatures." The stress of exams must have worn off, causing his appetite to return.

"Arithmancy? Yeah, I think I did okay. I went to bed early the night before and my vision stayed clear through the whole exam, so if I didn't do well, I can't blame it on that." He dipped his bread into the gravy and took a bite.

"How'd you do on the Defense practical?"

"Not bad, actually. I was pleasantly surprised. Hot, though, so be careful."

She smiled. "Good. It would be rather unfair if your vision affected your performance. I wonder if they could have tested you orally? Seems as though we should have had the best chances possible. But if you think you did all right, that's what counts I guess."

"Oh, I think I did acceptably. I maybe squeezed out an E, but it's doubtful. Did I see you at the Hog's head? I thought I spotted you, but it was rather crowded."
