The table had a nice view yet it was also private. Merlin's Garden was a step up from most of the cafes and restaurants in Diagon Alley, so there wasn't much chance of being disturbed by shrill young people gossiping, which was one reason that Andy had chosen it for this meeting. It had been ages since the last lunch. That one had been awkward and stilted, to say the least, but it had been the first time they'd spoken in over twenty-five years. Andy had to believe that that was part of it. There had been brief interaction since, at Cissa's birthday party and the Autumn Ball, but they hadn't tried lunch again. Until today.
It was strange to consider how different they both were now, yet Andy knew that they still shared some qualities. Even if she had to look close to find them. Or maybe they shared more than she liked to think, since she rarely noticed some of her less than positive traits. She might have turned her back on her family and what they stood for many years ago, but she had been born and raised a Black, and some things just never truly went away.
Life was pretty empty now, with Ted and Dora gone, and she really missed family. Her family. She had Teddy, thank God, but the silence and lonely hours could get absolutely unbearable. She tried not to think about it, really, because it was what it was, yet she couldn't help entertaining the notion that she had to eventually develop friendships or find connections with family members that hadn't been close before.
Harry was Teddy's godfather, so he was an obvious choice of someone she could consider 'family', and Roger was a surprising new friend, as was Fleur. There were Kingsley and Gawain, of course, and Charlie and Hestia seemed to want to connect with Dora through her and Teddy, which she could understand. But none of them were family. For that, she had tried with Gregory, who was a sweet boy, and she tried with Draco, who she liked to think was maturing in a way that meant he was thinking for himself. But Cissa was different. There was so much history there, and it wasn't all good despite their keeping in touch via owls during the years.
It was silly to be nervous, regardless. It was just lunch. It had been a long morning already, and she welcomed the break from work. It was Thursday, which meant that Fleur would be watching Teddy for a few hours, and she had made plans to go eat seafood with Roger, which should be enjoyable. She needed to stop dwelling on the past so much and look at this lunch as an opportunity to see how she and Narcissa got along as the women that they'd become instead of the girls that they'd once been.
