Ginny was in the middle of dream where she was being chased by a chimera--at least until she was jerked from her sleep by Charlie's voice. She sat up, groggy and heart racing, and blinked at him. He ducked out quickly, mentioning breakfast.

She swung her legs over the bed and tugged on something more than a tank top and boxer shorts. Then she padded downstairs, and the scent of food grew stronger the closer she got to the kitchen.

Charlie was sitting at the table when she entered the kitchen. "Morning," she grumbled, but she was surprised to see that no one else was there. When was the last time Charlie wanted to eat breakfast with her? She couldn't even remember...

"Hey Gin," he said, standing up and moving around the table. "Egg muffins," he said. "So do you want over easy, sunny side up, poached or scrambled?" he asked, moving back over to the stove and hovering.

She seemed to be a bit surprised, and Charlie tried to smile, "New Years last night," he said, "Made a few New Years Resolutions. Spend more time with the family, mostly. What about you?" he asked, so as to make it less of an explanation, and more of a conversation starter. She still looked sleepy, so he moved the teapot over onto the table.

"Scrambled sounds good today," she answered. "Thanks."

Ginny yawned and rubbed the back of her neck as she listened to Charlie's resolution. "Did I make any resolutions?" she asked. She dropped her chin into the palm of her hand and sighed. "Yeah, I suppose I did." She didn't know if Charlie really wanted to know what she had decided when it came to her personal life, so she poured herself some tea instead.

"Smells good."

"Scrambled," he agreed, and went for it, cracking eggs into the pan and adding salt and milk and pepper and butter. He stayed over the pan, hearing her hesitance when she talked about resolutions, and casting her one quick glance over his shoulder before continuing with his scrambling.

When he was done - it didn't take long - he returned to the table and scooped out the scrambled egg onto their muffins, before returning the empty pan to the sink for the scourers to wash up.

"We haven't talked in ages," he told her, settling into the chair opposite with his plate in front of him. "I don't even know how you're doing at school. The youngest, littlest one, about to take her NEWTs. It's almost frightening. I still remember you being this big." He gestured, holding his fingers apart at about the length of the plate. "You doing alright?" he asked, finally.

Ginny let Charlie plop a large scoop of scrambled eggs onto her plate. She grabbed a muffin and tucked in.

"School is fine," she said after swallowing down a mouthful. "Been studying pretty hard." It was the truth. Didn't matter why she had thrown herself into her studies. "Should do alright."

She forked more eggs into her mouth. Then she looked up at Charlie. He wanted to know how she was. What a loaded question. She half-smiled. "Been better. How're you?"

"Been worse," he teased. He reached over and placed his hand on hers briefly, squeezed, then let go and returned to his own breakfast.

"Really, though. What's that supposed to mean? I don't think you could feel any worse now than you did last year, Gin." He bit his lip. "I hope it isn't that bad for you. You'd tell me, right? Let me help?"

Ginny glanced down at Charlie's hand on hers and swallowed past the knot that tried to lodge itself in her throat.

She shrugged at him. "I don't feel worse than last year. Suppose I'm just frustrated that I haven't progressed much further." She averted her eyes. "But everyone has problems. Don't worry about me."

She ate the last of her eggs. "So, what's new with you?"

"You've progressed miles, Gin. You stuck to school, and that's an achievement and a half, considering the way you were thinking during the summer." And in retrospect, he could hardly blame her, but the idea of not going back to school...

"Oh, Gin," he sighed, and stuffed another mouthful of eggs into his mouth.

When he spoke again, he spoke about something else entirely. "Working with dragons now, actually. In Wales. But mostly I'm trying to be here for you lot. Especially for you and Ron. So I guess what I'm saying is...we should spend more time together. I know you've got Bill at school, but I'd like to get to know you."

Charlie started talking about dragons, and she felt the tangle of tension release in her chest. She thought he was going to tell her all about Wales and their species, but then his words turned back to family--to her and Ron.

Charlie wanted to get to know her. She had never thought he was an absentee brother. It's hard to know everything about your siblings when there is an age gap and they aren't home much, especially when your growing from a toddler to a teenager.

Something in Charlie's words, in the way he spoke to her, made the knot return. "Really?" she finally said. Then she nodded and tried to swallow normally. "Okay..."

She looked up at him. "I think that would be...nice."
