The sky outside had barely turned from inky black when George found himself awake again. He contemplated staying where he was, then realized that what had woken him was the urge to move. He'd be too restless. He'd wake Lee for sure...
George turned his head and watched Lee sleeping for a moment, then began the slow slide to the side of the bed. Lee burrowed into the covers and George smiled fainly, then slid out of bed for the second time that night. Morning. Whatever. He pulled on his dressing gown and tucked wands into his pocket, then headed out for the loo.
He avoided the hearth for a few minutes, busying himself in the kitchen with coffee, finally making it to the living room with a cup. He set a small fire in the fireplace, just enough to take the chill off the room. The tiny tree stood where he'd left it, a few tiny needles scattered on the bricks. He brushed them aside as he sat on the rug, sipping at his coffee and staring into the flames.
