It had been a difficult day at work. Hornby had given her a new file to work on, a case involving an accused Voldemort supporter that dealt with children. While Hermione was glad to have more to do with her day, she hadn't yet toughened herself to deal with such graphic testimony review without feeling. The case she was reviewing involved the wife of a man who had reportedly used the war as an excuse to abuse children. In some ways, it was much like the man who had raped and tortured Muggleborn women ( ... )

Pansy set down her mug and smiled at Hermione. "A little worn out, honestly. This business is exhausting. How are you? Are your enjoying the break from Magical Creatures?" Pansy asked curiously.

"It's emotionally exhausting. At least, the cases I've had to work on so far have made me feel too much. I'm sure it's something that gets better with time, though I think if it ever reached a point where reading about that stuff didn't affect you, it would be bad."

She nodded. "I am, actually. It's nice to be able to do something that will help make a difference. Filing is important, I know, but there's more purpose coming into work right now because they've given us more responsibility."

"Yes, I did read it. It was very interesting. I can understand why people had it banned, since they certainly wouldn't want to give people freedom of thought and knowledge that not every House Elf is thankful for their situation."

Pansy nodded and looked down into her coffee. "You could say that," she said softly.

"It's a nice change, even if it brings up confusing emotions," she said with a slight smile. "It's not every day you work to cross check evidence against your family friends."

"I'm glad. When I went home to pack up my belongings, I made a point to free the rest of our family elves. I think a few stayed at the house, not willing to leave the family, and several went to Hogwarts."
