"I'm looking," Roger said, lifting his brows as he took in the sight of the huge ballroom, which looked as if it it really could hold the whole of the Wizarding world inside it, nearly. The spellwork to get it to this size had to've been impressive. And it was just about as fancy a room as he had ever seen. And everyone looked fantastic. He took in the sight of all the women in their dresses and their robes, looking like a million Galleons from where he stood.
They walked through the security detail, which he supposed was necessary at such a public event, especially these days, and he noted that the room was split off. One side for dinner and another for dancing, which was where he hoped to spend a big part of the evening.
His suit was new; it had been a very long time since he'd had occasion to wear something so formal, and a long time since he'd gone out to buy something he didn't particularly need. Sometimes, though, you had to splurge. It wasn't any fun making money if you could never spend it on something frivolous. Besides, if he was a judge, the suit looked pretty good on him. He smiled and slipped his hands into his pockets, turning back to Wayne.
"I'm torn between the last two options," he said, "And since I've not yet reached a verdict, what do you say we get drinks and then head over to a large table. We can hold it for the others when they get here."
"Sounds like a plan," he said. "Drinks then table. If they don't show soon, we'll find us some birds and start dancing."
He spotted a bar not too far from where they came in and headed in that direction. It was good to see that they had water and juices to balance out all the spirits. "Glass of water, please." He reached into his pocket to get out a few knuts for the drink but was waved away.
"Bloody hell. Free drinks?" he muttered to Roger. "Shall we make bets on how many people get pissed in the first hour?"
Roger laughed at Wayne's comment, deciding to start with water as well. It'd be a long night, after all. "We can place odds on that, yeah. Whomever's closest to the total buys the other a drink next time we go out somewhere they're actually charging, yeah?"
Drinks in hand, they headed over to a table. "You think this might hold everyone? I figure there'll be at least ten of us when it's all said and done."
"Sounds like a deal." He considered the amount of tables and how abundant the drinks would be before he nodded. "I'll wager there'll be at least three obnoxious drunks who have to be dealt with by the scary Aurors, and a couple dozen others who are definitely buzzed by the time this thing is over."
He got his glass and walked over to a large table on the left-middle of the room. "Looks good to me. If we need more space, can always use one of these others around it. I say we give them ten minutes and then go dance."
Oliver stepped into the ballroom, and upon seeing Roger and Wayne moved quickly to them. He was already feeling warm in his suit just as he'd suspected.
Alicia, having just arrived with Penny and Angelina- all of them looking fabulous, of course- spotted Oliver standing over by Roger and Wayne. She grinned widely, taking Penny's hand, and dragged the girls over to them. She hadn't talked to Oliver in a while, it felt like, and he looked good all dressed up.
"Hello, gentlemen," she said in a low voice, winking at Wayne as she walked up. "You grabbed us a table? We might need two." She adjusted the strap of her dress, infinitely happy that she had chosen flats for this evening as she looked over the three boys, figuring she'd be dancing a lot very soon.
"Hello, all. Gorgeous place, eh? Mostly my doing," Lee said playfully, pointing to the candles suspended in the air around the room. "See, the lighting? All me. Well, Cho Chang helped a bit, but really, all me." Lee loved fancy events. Everyone looked gorgeous, and the food and dancing and music...it was amazing. For his part, he was wearing simple black dress robes, with a black waistcoat and a deep red cravat for some color.
"There are some free tables over there, if we want to claim them."
Roger and Wayne didn't need to wait long before the rest of their party began to filter in. Penny and Angelina came in with Alicia, who was looking absolutely fantastic in orange. Roger looked over at her and grinned; he'd not seen her in a little while and was looking forward to dancing with her and the other girls. Oliver came in shortly afterward, with Lee practically on his heels, and Roger smiled.
"Hey," he said, glancing up at the lighting overhead before he added, "nice job." He gestured to the table he and Wayne had grabbed. "Think we're going to be sitting here, mate, though it might take the neighboring table too, to hold all of us. We ready to have some fun?"
"Hey Alicia," Wayne said, grinning when she and two vaguely familiar girls joined them. Another couple of blokes came up, and he nodded at them. "Evening."
He didn't know anyone but Roger and Alicia, though he recognized them from school. All older than him by a couple of years, at least. He took a drink of his water and sat down, figuring he'd sit for a few minutes before he checked out the place better and started dancing.
Alicia grinned and sidled up to where Wayne was sitting. "Do you know everyone? That's Oliver, Lee, Angelina, and Penny," she said, motioning to each of them in turn without waiting for his answer. "Everyone, this is Wayne, he's a fabulous dancer," she announced, and then turned back to Wayne.
"You look great," she said honestly. "Penny's the one that helped me with the girly stuff," she motioned to Penny.
Terry looked gorgeous. Katie had to stop herself from touching him and kissing him every five seconds. She knew he probably wouldn't mind, but her conversation with Hannah last week had opened her up to the fact that they could be a bit much at times for others. So she made sure they had a nice long snog before they arrived, hoping that'd quell their touchiness.
She adjusted her dress one last time before entering the ballroom. She quickly spotted Al and the others and let Terry go find his friends while she headed over to the table.
"Hi guys!" she said, giving everyone a hug and kiss. She was pleased to see Oliver and gave him an extra long hug; it had been ages since they'd spoken.
Oliver brightened when he saw Katie, it had been far too long. Squeezing her he eyed her date. Bloke was sure lucky, he thought.
"Looking great, Katie. Meant to Owl you yesterday, I applied for a job with Magical games and sports, so if everything goes my way we might get to work together," he said smiling. He resisted the urge to ask her to dance figuring her boyfriend might not like it much, and let go of her before turning to the table collective. "Who wants to dance?"
"That's wonderful! Finally I'll have someone to talk to who won't bore me to tears," Katie said, smiling.
"Oh, you're not getting away that easily, Wood," Katie said when he let go of her. "We need to dance. I've missed dancing with you." She took his hand and led him out to the dance floor.
"It's a pity they're not playing faster music. I'm dreadful at this proper dancing," she said, putting her hands around his neck. "You tell me all about this new job, and maybe I'll tell you about this terribly clever Quidditch idea Mel and I have," she said, her eyes twinkling mischievously.
"All right then, Bell," he said as she dragged him to the dance floor.
"Swaying is my forte, thank you." Oliver raised his eyebrows at the mention of clever, Quidditch, and idea in the same sentence. "Hmmm. What will I have to do to get that little tidbit out of you?"
"I don't know. Maybe tell me why you've been so distant?" She tried to make her tone playful, but it'd hurt a bit, him not being around. It was like he just stopped caring. "And why you're not playing in the league. I think you might have hit your head and I just want to make sure you're alright."

"Alicia, looking lovely tonight."
Oliver smiled as their group started to fill in slowly. Tonight was going to be excellent.
