After receiving Kingsley's owl, she'd not wanted to go to the ball at all. She didn't want to accept an award on her son's behalf, she didn't want to spend the evening being reminded that her boy was a war hero and he'd died for 'the greater good'. She'd heard all that the last time. But Arthur, her wonderful Arthur, had spoken to her in soft whispers. He always made her see the positive, look at the other side of the picture.

And now that Ron was getting an Order of Merlin, well. She had to see her baby boy's moment in the spotlight. After being outshined by his siblings for so long, he deserved it.

She smiled and smoothed out the front of her gown, heading to the living room when she saw Ginny coming downstairs.

"You look wonderful, my love," she said, putting her hand to her heart. It was a bittersweet realization for Molly that Ginny was indeed a woman now, and not her little girl anymore. Ginny's eyes teared up as her mum looked at her. She made her feel like the most beautiful girl in the world; always had. It made all the nagging and bickering that went on in this house worthwhile.

"Thanks, Mum," she said quietly. "I'm actually quite nervous, if you can believe it. I hope he gets here soon."

Ginny's hand went subconsciously to the necklace her father had given her for her birthday.

Neville showered and dressed with care. He fixed his buttonhole in place and collected Ginny's corsage before he disapparated to the Burrow. He had re-read Ginny's letter from last night about a dozen times today but it still made him feel as warm as it did the first time.

He stood up straight and knocked on the door. Neville had been prepared for her to look beautiful, because she always did, but not this beautiful. "You look amazing, Gin," he said after she opened the door.

Completely taken aback at the sight of Neville dressed for an evening out, Ginny drew an audible breath. After she’d stared a moment longer than was probably appropriate, Ginny realized she hadn't said anything in greeting, and her throat was incredibly dry.

“You look nice,” she rasped, desperately wanting a glass of water. She stepped away from him and motioned for him to come into the house.

"Is that for me?" she asked, looking at what he was holding.
