Date: 24 May 1998 Characters: Daphne Greengrass, Sasha Capper Location: The Capper Home, London Status: Private Summary: Sasha thinks on the events of the last few days. Completion: Complete
Sasha had had enough of lying on her bed and starring at the ceiling, and thus had decided to head downstairs to the kitchen to see about a drink or a midnight snack or something. As she passed the guest room where Daphne was staying she was sure she heard a noise. She paused at the door and listened carefully. There was crying coming from inside, no question.
"Daph?" she said softly as she pushed the door open slightly. "Can I come in?"
Daphne heard footsteps in the hallway and immediately she wiped her face, sniffling a little. Taking a deep breath, she then said softly, "Sure, I'm awake anyway."
The door squeaked open and Sasha came in to join her. Suddenly, Daphne didn't feel quite so alone.
Sasha walked over to the bed and gently sat down next to her friend. She slid an arm around Daphne and pulled her closer. She pondered for what felt like the millionth time how lucky she was to have Daph as her best friend. Daphne had helped younger students get out of the castle before the battle, she had helped them find their parents, she'd been truly heroic. And she'd helped Sasha make it through the last week. She was the strongest person she knew.
"Do you want to talk about it?" she asked, simply. It seemed stupid to ask if the other girl was alright when the answer was apparent.
Daphne managed to gulp in her dry, aching throat, but it didn't help at all. "Not really..."
Daphne leaned her head on Sasha's shoulder. "Just let me stay here a little longer. I can't sort through my head right now."
Daphne couldn't help but wonder what to do about her parents, her brother. She wasn't sure exactly where they would be. They hadn't answered the one owl she'd sent them, but hadn't tried, as far as she knew, to get in touch with her, either. This was so unlike her parents not to send her something, at least a letter, if not a care package by this time. They must have heard the news by now and Daphne was starting to think the worst. But she couldn't bring herself to share her fears yet, even with Sasha.
She remained vague. "Just let me stay here until I know what to do?"
Daphne held her head up high, off of Sasha's shoulder. "I think we could both use some tea."
