"Which reminds me, I should work out with Cook the menu for my birthday," she said, giving Lucius a sideways glance as she sipped her wine. Did he already have something planned? It was always an awkward question to ask. She had started thinking about a guest list but didn't want to step on his toes if he had something specific in mind.

"I was going to talk to you about that. What you'd like to do. I don't know how well our...friends... would feel like celebrating at this point in time, but I don't hesitate to say that I would not miss this opportunity to dote on my lovely wife." Lucius smiled, doing his best to lay that charm on as thick as possible.

"Or," she smirked at him over the lip of her glass, "my charming husband could take his lovely wife out some place nice. Maybe make a long weekend of it. I can't remember the last time we went away together."

"Oh, and I've also been thinking that we should hire a new gardener or groundskeeper to get things properly in order, prepare for the spring. Perhaps a NEWT student in Herbology would be willing... What do you think?"

Lucius sliced up the broccoli until it was in tiny pieces, then mixed it in with some of his favorite hot chutney he had the house elves serve him. If he had to eat the vile plant, at least he didn't have to taste it.
"And as far as your birthday is concerned, as tempting as it would be to keep you in our bed all day, entertaining you in ways that are far to inappropriate to discuss at the dinner table, I believe socially, it might behoove us to entertain. The elves ought to be up to the task, and as long as my glucose levels are in line, I should feel up to being the perfect host."

"I'll write Professor Sprout and see if she can recommend someone for the gardens. I'm sure it would be valuable practical experience. In the meantime I'll have the elves try to tidy up a bit. And I'll think about this orchard idea."
