Dear Diary wait, that sounds like something a first year Hufflepuff would write...

I've been back at school for about 3 weeks now, and I must say, its a relief. Mother has owled me twice about getting her the names of all males in 6th and seventh year, and let's not forget the special class of NEWTs students. Yes, mother, because the sole aim of my time here is to find a match to make YOU happy. Father contacted me once, with a book he saw in my room that I must have missed packing. It was rather odd, having him be so...concerned. Nontheless, I sent a thank you and I'm sure that will be the end of our correspondence until the holidays. At least, until they press the issue on these bloody 'home visits' McGonagall has cooked up. I can't be the only person not wanting to go. Optional my arse. Has it escaped her attention that not all of us want to subject ourselves to family more than necessary?  I'm sure the torture would continue but fortunately, I can just neglect to turn in my Muggle Studies homework. Should take care of that. Mother can't stand the subject so she'd understand my reluctance or aversion, or avoidance or whatever the hell she'd call it. I'd call it strategic planning. Or, like that muggle emperor didn't learn, not fighting a war on two fronts.

Of course, if I really wanted to dodge her nattering, I could always mention Reed's odd reactions. I still have no idea why he'd go so wonky like that around me. Mandy's a nice enough girl, but she really is delusional, thinking such a think. When have I ever behaved such to make anyone thing such attention would be welcome? Yes, Eddie did drag me to the Yule Ball, but that... was more a joke. A way to pester me. Maybe that's it. Reed is playing games of some sort. Git. Unfortunately he's in several of my classes, so avoiding him will be difficult.

I've decided Professor Weasley isn't just an adventurer. He really does know his stuff. Assigning a poem that seemed to indicate the intangible and inquantifiable nature of art was rather thought-provoking. Especially when so much of Runes this year will be learning new standards. I do hope he doesn't make us wait to start on the Arabic sets. I've stared at the rune stone in his room, but I can't translate it yet. Demelza is a competent partner, which is a relief, because working with some of the Gryffindors in Charms might be more than I can stand.

She hesitated, then closed the book, tracing the pattern that would lock it to anyone else's eyes, and spelled it  blank, just in case. She laid back, enjoying the mid-afternoon sunlight that had peeked out. She mad more assignments to revise for in Ancient Runes and Arithmancy, but she'd take a moment, and just let her mind wander. She thought best like this, and right now, she wanted to think about her future. She'd read about a number of interns and internships going on at the moment, but how to get such a thing, and whether or not she could support herself on it and be out of her parents house was something she'd have to find out.
