There were some things at school that Lavender liked and others that she disliked. The same was very much true for work where she very much enjoyed tending to the flower gardens and doing maintenance work, but wasn't overly keen on working with the hybrid plants. The paperwork side of the business was a bit hit and miss. Some of it was alright, but others just made her wish she was twelve-years-old and didn't need to worry about that sort of thing.
She had already sorted through today's owl posts and orders from their customers, coming at last to another annoyed letter from Rhod Jenkins in Carmarthen. There were several customers for whom Lavender's father did yearly work at their actual gardens and Mr Jenkins was one of these. He didn't seem to be able to accept, however, that Duncan Brown was unavailable - Lavender preferred to use 'unavailable' rather than 'missing' as most customers had no reason to be prying into their family life. Over the summer, she'd mostly been able to fob the work off on Kieran who was more than capable and who despised doing paperwork. It was lucky, really, how their working attitudes fit together well, although Lavender took every opportunity to tease him for being afraid of the mandrakes.
Disgruntled with Mr Jenkins' obstinance, Lavender slowly typed out a response on the old typewriter, hoping that she could somehow placate the wizard.
