There wasn't anything to be done for him regarding his broom, but RB had finally struck paydirt the other day at the Ministry shortly after 2 o'clock in the afternoon. He'd thought to try King's Cross the same Friday he aced his Apparition test to see if there was some sort of lost and found for Platform 9-3/4 but the barrier had been closed. It was after visiting the 7th Ministry office of the day and explaining for the 12th time about why he there, that he encountered Mr. Twycross in the corridor. That got RB thinking about his initial desire to check King's Cross. The man had seemed a decent enough bloke, so RB decided to ask if he knew anyone in Magical Transportation that could help.

It turned out that there was a lost and found for King's Cross. It currently consisted of 173 items, none of them a broom. What he did find was Sophie's scrapbook and several other things that had no value to anyone but their owners. They wouldn't allow him to take a copy of the list, but they did agree that if Hogwarts or Mrs. Weasley's association requested copies that they would be sent. When they explained that they only held items for a year before disposal, he convinced them to give the owners an extra 30 days to make a claim. RB thought that as long as nothing was destroyed on the 1st, pretty Mrs. Weasley would be able to talk them into even more time. Overall, he left feeling pretty good about his visit. He was disappointed for himself, but he'd been able to make a difference for some others. He had also had an interesting run in with Draco Malfoy.

RB thought Malfoy would be amused that he was the reason Reed Bradley would be able to afford a new broom today. His granddad had been so tickled when RB related the story of his encounter at the Ministry and the prison sex incident that he offered to pay for the new broom as long as his grandson promised not to tell his parents he gave him the money and to bring the autographed picture with him when he came to collect the money so he could see it for himself. Maria Bradley did not approve of her father showing favoritism to his eldest grandson, but what she didn't know wouldn't hurt her. It wasn't as if he planned to crow about where he got the broom. Between the money he had saved from last summer's job, what his granddad gave him, and what his parents finally relented and handed him this morning, he'd be able to get everything he needed for school as long as he spent carefully.

To be perfectly honest, RB had been a little nervous about getting his parents to come around to the idea of his return to Hogwarts. They had spent the last year furious with him for not writing or coming home for the holidays as they had no idea he had been taken to Azkaban. Upon his release, they learned the truth and switched to being angry he had not told them about situation in wizarding Britain. They had been so upset that they initially refused to allow him to return to Hogwarts. It didn't go very well when he explained that he was considered of age as a wizard and they couldn't stop him. Things were a little strained but RB understood they were worried and worked hard at convincing them he'd be all right going back. Malfoy would probably be equally amused that he was basically the catalyst for his parent's agreement. RB calmly pointed out that if his folks were so willing to accept him, no matter whether he was straight or gay, shouldn't they accept that he was a wizard too? He knew he had them when his mum blushed. This morning, she had told him his father left an envelope with money for school things on the counter and he should be back by 7 o'clock that evening for dinner.

That gave him only today to shop, so here he was in Diagon Alley methodically working his way through his to-do list hoping he'd get everything else done in time to see to the last item on his list... Buy Broom.
