She smiled when he touched her arm, steading her.  The smile turned to a grin when Edmund said: "I think you remember the way to school from here.  Just send Archie when you're ready to leave."

Her owl, just retrieved yesterday, gave him an indignant glance.  "You know his name is Archimedes."  But there was no bite in admonishment.  Freedom.  To actually go someplace alone; trust Edmund to know she needed that.

Setting out, letting Archimedes free to fly ahead, and clutching her still unfamiliar wand in her hand, she felt liberated.

So much depended on her now, she realized.   Her Mum flinched at the slightest sign of magic, and withdrew from her Dad.   Her father, she had overheard stating to Edmund, believed she only went with him at Azkaban as he was the only familiar face she knew.   If that was true, how would they survive.  If her mother didn't trust her father, and he didn't trust himself, was there anyway for them to stay together.

Victoria knew the answer, it was up to her to find a way for them to bridge their fears.  Already, in their flat, she'd spent an hour calming her mother.  Telling her that she would come back, and with her eyes trying to tell her Dad to do the same.  But he had given up it seemed.

And as much as she knew she should stay, she just couldn't.   Right now the only way she could see for them to be alright would be to turn their backs on the Wizarding world and make their way as Muggles.  It would be no great hardship, they were all skilled at doing things that way.  It had only seemed fair growing up to give both worlds their due.  But it would be letting Voldemort win in some odd way, letting the Bigots have their day, and Victoria found she couldn't do it.

She hadn't looked into her mother's almost vacant eyes just to give up on her, or this world.  There had to be a way to fix it; to make it better, to learn from everything everyone, including herself, had done wrong.  And then all musing stopped as she heard footsteps behind her.

Whirling around, her wand raised, she slowly lowered it as the boy, young man really, got closer.  He looked familiar in a way.

"Hello?"
