Katie sat under a tree in Hawthorne park, thinking over everything that had happened. Last year, she'd spent her birthday surrounded by her friends, both new and old, ending the evening in Terry's arms. She'd felt loved and wanted and beautiful. And now, it was all gone. All those friends, a man to hold her while she slept.

She knew it was her fault, she knew that, but she couldn't figure out how to fix it. But could she fix it? It seemed like Lee would never forgive her, and with all that had happened, she wasn't going to disturb him now. Oliver still talked to her, but he was cold and distant. And Ang just looked at her, all disappointed and hurt. Dean wouldn't even answer her owls to tell her to fuck off. Like she wasn't worth the parchment.

It was times like this that she really wondered why she'd been saved. Why someone had rushed her to St. Mungo's. Was there a higher power that had a plan for her? Or was this just a cruel trick of fate? It would be so much easier if she had died. If she died. They wouldn't miss her that much.

Katie groaned and shook her head, feeling Healer Claire's stern voice in her head. "Stop. Breathe. Go over your list."

Her list. The reasons for not picking up that bottle and ending it all. The reasons to stay.

She breathed deep and then exhaled and began to recite. "Dad. Mum. Leanne. Alicia. Fife. Áine. Chocolate. Fish and Chips. Quidditch. Sunday mornings. Dancing. Colin Firth in a wet shirt. Popcorn. Diet coke. Sex. The children I will have. The husband I will love. The future I will live."

She wiped the tears from her eyes and smiled, wishing there was a way for her to have a telly so she could watch Pride and Prejudice in her flat. She could definitely use some Colin Firth right now. But she'd settle for the next best thing: chocolate.
