Date: 28 September 1999 Characters: Alicia Spinnet, Katie Bell Location: Belladonna Status: Semi-private (unless someone wants to stop by and say hello?) Summary: Happy Birthday, darling! Completion: Complete
After having dinner with her father, Katie went home for a quick shower before she changed into her new dress. She had a bit of trouble with the back, but with some tricky wand work, she'd managed to get it done up alright. She tied up her hair to show off the back and slipped on a pair of heels before apparating to the Belladonna. It didn't take her long to spot her friend waiting and she walked over to her, a massive grin on her face.
"Hello gorgeous," she said, "I'm so glad you let your legs out for the evening."
Alicia bounced up, pressing a kiss to Katie's cheek. "Hello, darling," she answered, hugging her friend. "How was your dinner with your dad?" she asked curiously before stepping back and glancing at Katie's dress. She whistled, raising her eyebrows. "That's quite the dress. It's new, yeah? I've not seen it before."
She took her seat again and crossed her legs, glancing down. "With all the running I've been doing, you can bet I'm letting them out," she laughed. "Got to get some benefit out of waking up at bloody dawn every day."
She glanced over at Katie and smiled broadly. "So. Would you like your pressie now, or after we get a few drinks in us?"
"Impressive," Al said, glancing at Katie's dress. "Looks gorgeous."
Al took the pressie out of her handbag and enlarged with a quick tap of her wand. It was a fairly large box, and she laughed as it took up nearly their entire table.
Alicia pulled back and raised an eyebrow at Katie. "Quite grateful, I see," Al said, smirking, as she checked to make sure her lipstick hadn't been mussed. "But I'm still not playing on your side of the fence, Bell," she said mock-sternly, grinning.
"I'm really pleased you like them," Al said. "Of course, if they're the wrong sizes and whatnot you can exchange, but hopefully I've remembered them correctly."
"I'm sure you've remembered," Katie said, "now let's get you drunk so I can try to seduce you with my feminine wiles." She licked her lips suggestively before winking.
Alicia laughed, shaking her head as she walked up to the bar. Katie's absolute irreverence was one of the things Al loved about her.
"Two chocolate martinis," she said a bit later, sliding one across the table to Katie and taking her seat. "Found I couldn't turn down chocolate myself, actually," she explained, taking a sip of her own.
"So, Miss Serious Quidditch Official," Al drawled, "how are things going with your training then?"
"Thanks," Katie said, taking a big sip. "Delicious."
"Fairly well. I'll be officiating Reserve matches soon. Which is actually a bit terrifying, to be honest," Katie said, "but I've got to do it someday, right?"
"Ooooh?" Alicia raised her brows. "I'll expect to be getting notification of the first match, darling, I hope you realise. Got to show up and tell you all you've cocked up."
She smiled beatifically at Katie for several seconds before being unable to hold the pose and laughing instead. "Not really, of course," she said. "But I can't wait to see you out there."
"The kids are brilliant--at causing mischief, anyway," Al said wryly, taking another sip. "One of the little sparkles nearly ruined my trousers, and in a thoroughly Muggle way even. The grassy area nearest the school has gone to mud due to a charm gone awry. I was meant to be fixing it, but before I could the little bloke slithered right past me and took us down in a completely fantastic manner. Arse over tit, me and him both. And charms are barely enough on mud as is, you know."
Alicia laughed. "Really, Katie, you'll be brilliant. Don't worry," she encouraged.
"Not likely," Alicia giggled, finishing off her martini. "I love teaching. But I've got enough on my hands at school as it is. Don't need to bring them home with me too. Not for some years yet, if ever."
She eyed Katie curiously. "Why? Are you suddenly possessed with a longing to reproduce your own genes for the good of humanity or some such?" she teased.
"Thanks," Katie said, taking another large sip of the martini.
She shook her head. "I did wonder about it when I was with Dean," she admitted, "thought about what our kids would be like if we ever had them. But now, there's not much point, is there? I'd have to move to another country to find a Wizard who'd want kids with me," she said, trying to keep her voice even. Fuck. She told herself this wasn't going to be a pity party.
Alicia winced internally. God, she'd really put her foot in it. This party was a marked difference as compared to last year's, and it hurt her. She could only imagine it hurt Katie too. It's not like Katie hadn't made mistakes, but they all had done that, hadn't they? Alicia had been meaning to make this party fun, not bring up bad memories.
"Well," Alicia said, smiling as she squeezed Katie's hand. "I don't know. That blond bloke over there seems to be glancing over at you a bit too often, if you catch my drift. He looks like he might be eager for you and he to be having a bit of the activity that can lead to kids, at any rate," she grinned.

"Definitely. After all, the chief reason why one runs at the crack of dawn is for showing off the legs," Katie said, sitting down across from Al.
"Oh, a pressie!" Katie said, clapping her hands. "Let's have it now!"

"Go on then," she encouraged.

Her eyes boggled as Alicia pulled out a package which quickly became enormous.
"Did you buy me a pony?" She marveled, before ripping into the wrapping paper and then opening the box.
Inside were a new set of replacement Quidditch leathers. Hers were getting quite beat up and it was just the sort of thing she needed.
"Thank you!!" She said, hopping off her chair and running around to give Al an intense kiss. "You're the best."

"What would you like?" she asked Katie, smoothing her dress down. "I'll get the first one; my treat for the birthday girl."

"Chocolate martini, please!" Katie said clapping her hands together.
