Harry headed over to Ron when he caught his eye, wondering what was up. Ron had that slightly awkward, shifty look in his eyes that meant he had something to say, and Harry chuckled inwardly a bit.

"Sure, mate," he said, falling into step with Ron. "What sort of news?"

Harry had to know this was coming, didn't he? Ever since Ron had decided to move out, the question hadn't been whether, but when. As he and Harry walked a bit further from the other trainees, Ron came to stop, shifting nervously from one foot to the other.

"About my moving house," he said, rubbing his neck. "I, erm...well, I'm going to move to Hogsmeade this weekend. Saturday, actually. I owled the landlord and he told me that if I wasn't in the flat by the end of the month he'd have to let it to someone else. So...yeah."

When Ron told him he was moving this weekend, Harry blinked and nodded. He'd kind of been expecting it -- obviously -- Ron had said he'd put a deposit down, or something, and that had been a couple weeks ago. "Oh," he said. "Yeah, mate. Course you are."

Harry wanted to support Ron in whatever he needed to do; the last time they'd talked, they'd cleared a few things up. But he knew things were still really tense between him and Hermione. "So," he frowned and reached back to scratch the back of his head. "D'you need, erm, anything?"

Harry didn't sound terribly surprised, which was good. Despite being, supposedly, the most rational of the three of them, Hermione could be scary and, Ron thought, somewhat irrational when she was upset with someone - which she seemed to be most of the time, lately, toward ron.

He gave Harry a significant look. "Was wondering if I could take my bed with me, y'know? Mostly because 've got used to sleeping on it. I mean, I could transfigure something into a bed, for now, but it wouldn't be the same." He took a deep breath. "And I was hoping you'd tell Hermione for me, about this. Because she and I can't seem to talk lately without getting into a row."

If asking that made him a coward, so be it.

Harry nearly laughed when Ron asked him to take his bed with him. He was glad he could laugh when the prospect of Ron leaving made him feel so sad. "Ron, you can take whatever you want," he said, "'course you can. It's your stuff, mate. But I meant, y'know -- help. Moving things, and all that."

He looked balefully at Ron, already tired of his two best friends not getting along. Some things never changed, he supposed. "You should tell her yourself," he said. "I mean, what're you going to do, sneak out of the house when she's asleep?" He sighed. "I can tell her if you want, but it's not going to help things any."

When Harry said he wanted to help with the move, Ron gave him a bleak smile. "Okay, definitely the bed then," he said. "You can help move things if you want. I was planning to shrink everything, but even then I'll probably have several boxes of stuff, and if you helped it would go quicker. And you'd get to see my place, such as it is."

"Bugger, I knew you'd say that," he admitted, shoving his hands deep in his robe pockets. "If I don't tell her myself, she'll accuse me of sneaking out. If I do tell her, she'll complain about me leaving so soon." He looked at Harry. "Can't win either way, but you're probably right."

Even so, he didn't think he could stomach another lecture from her. He'd have to think of some way to tell her without the possibility of a confrontation.
