Today is born of trouble
The world in peril
Our nation scarred
My body is marred
My relationships raw
But this morning is new
The allies collectively sighed
Sun rose over clouded United States
Somewhere a little girl named Liberty smiles
Uncontrollable laughter and tears baffle my face
The work and blood and sacrifice of unknowing ancestors
Fruition of skin black, white, red, brown, yellow, and you
A time for gay celebration, battles ahead, and humble reflection
And the gravity of the inauguration takes over
Evident evolution of the mind, body, and soul of this nation
This moment is larger than one man uniting African and American
This goes beyond one movement, nation, party, creed, or color
Today is about tomorrow brighter but burdened
Born of a people who must take responsibility
Lines of history waiting to be… [written]
