I hoped that maybe we could be friends, or at least friendly acquaintances, even after we broke up. But I don't particularly like Roger these days, either.

I'm not sure how well I ever knew him, to be honest. I should have listened to my friends who cautioned me against getting involved with a professor... It's hard to see someone clearly through all the hero worship.
