Something was wrong. Very wrong. That was Tevan's first thought when he woke up. Sitting up, he looked about himself and tried to fight off the massive sense of dread that was now looming over his head.
His next thought was that something had malfunctioned. Worried, he sent out his senses throughout the area, trying to locate the fault. There was nothing.
Annoyed, he walked into one of the experiment monitoring centres. Hopefully the scientists there could tell him what was wrong.
The monitoring centre was a scene of confusion. People ran around, busy checking screens and talking in worried voices. No one noticed Tevan's entrance.
"Magnets quenched."
"Massive damage"
"Will take months to repair."
Tevan froze. Why were they talking about a quench? He was fully certain that there was no quench. He had already checked and re-checked. He was sure his magic was strong enough to detect something as basic as a quench.
Tevan walked out of the room - into the open. He needed to get away from the place. The mood was too depressing. He hated it.
Then, out of no where, Tevan was hit by the massive force of someone running straight into him. He was shocked and fell backwards. Thankfully it was just grassy so he wasn’t hurt.
Tevan looked at the person who had run into him.
“Serenity! What in the name of -!?” He was cut off by Serenity burying her face into his shoulder and sobbing.
Tevan didn’t know what to do. Comforting crying girls wasn’t something particle accelerators - even in their human forms - were particular good at. He had seen humans comfort one another but no one had explained the mechanics of human emotion to him. Then again, he wasn’t even sure if the human forms that technology took could have emotions like their human users.
But right now wasn’t the time for contemplation. Serenity had now chosen to bury her face into Tevan’s chest and was now whimpering.
“Something bad happened. Magnets.. quenched. Massive damage.” Serenity choked out, between sobs. So that was what his scientists were talking about, Tevan though to himself.
“How bad?” Tevan asked, even though he had a rough idea of the damage. He had been listening in to his scientists’ conversations.
“I don’t know. I didn’t stay to find out. As soon as I felt the damage spread, I ran off. I don’t dare go back. My scientists are probably very mad at me now.” Serenity sighed. She was now sitting in front of Tevan, wiping at her tear-streaked face.
Tevan sighed as well. He didn’t know what to do. But Serenity had come to him for help, and the least he could do was comfort her.
“You can stay here, with me. For a while. But you’ll need to go back sooner or later.” Tevan said. Serenity grinned despite her tears.
More Tevan and Serenity fic. am starting to love this two crazy humanized particle accelarators.
and this is the
magnet quench the fic is referring to.
copyrights so i don't get sued.
the LHC & Tevatron belong to CERN and Fermilab respectively.
*don't have the space in my garden to own a hadron collider*
Tevan and Serenity are mine - that is all.
