There was a conversation today between the dual degree students and the main women's studies and social work faculty. It was frustrating on a lot of levels. It really felt like the social work department wasn't willing to bend at all and that any suggestions the students made were met with "oh, I don't think the social work faculty would be willing to do that." Finally, I said that it seemed like the social work department doesn't really want a dual degree and that I'm frustrated because it seems they aren't really willing to work with us. That got something to sort of happen, and now maybe the program will be better in a few years, but I'm still screwed. I'm meeting Friday to talk to the women's studies program director about switching to just women's studies. I don't really want to do that, but I'm tired of the social work department treating dual degree students like we're unwanted or acting like we are social work students and ignoring the dual degree aspect. It's supposed to be a dual degree, and right now it's not. The women's studies aspect is the more important aspect to me, and I don't really feel like giving the social work department any more money until they can stop treating me like an annoyance. We'll see what happens, but that's where I'm at right now.
