My Best Friend

I attended my best friend's Mom's celebration of life. During the ceremony there was a chance to say a few words. I didn't, partially because I wanted other folks to have their say and partially because the most important people at the gathering to me pretty much know this already. There is also a third reason, basically not wanting to be a blubbering idiot but pride really wasn't the main concern.

As I said I'm sure he already knows this but sometimes things should be said anyhow.
I've known his mom almost as long as I've known him. I spent more than a few years calling her Mam, for as long as she would let me. Not only because I was raised that way but also because I was really calling her "Mom". When I wasn't at home that's exactly what she was. She was my second Mom. And any time I was with her family, I was part of her family.

I don't think I'm special for this. Instead I think she was very special.

Hang in there, my Old Friend, my Brother. You know I'm here if there's anything I can do at all.
