ISTM that another solution to the problem would be to not use Amazon to make the donation. Canceling the account doesn't get you any farther along with making the donation.

Refusing to do business with them in any way because you don't like how one little branch does business seems overkill.

If you want to limit your business to companies that will not share your data with anyone with a nickel, you should probably move to Montana, raise goats and limit yourself to barter. You CERTAINLY shouldn't be doing anything online that ties in any way to anything financial. It's been like that for at least a decade, probably more.

Thing is, everyone's shopping for a bargain, special deals, great rates. One of the ways that banks and everyone else offer great rates is by taking advantage of every money making opportunity there is, including selling data to the extent that they can legally get away with and their customers will put up with (assuming they're even required to disclose it, and people actually read the agreements).

It may be possible that if you pick the right bank, they'll keep the data private. Until they get bought by some other bank that won't. Even pulling your account at that time probably won't save you then either. And that bank probably won't have the best deals, because they're not making the money other banks are.
