Yes, well, it's sort of like resolving to remodel one's house *and* save money. No one said one's resolutions were required to be internally consistent.
One can have fun while eating less. My mantra over the holidays was, "It's not that you can't eat, it's just that you can't eat *much*." That brought me through with only minor issues to work off in January.
Certainly, but if one is truly tempted to overeat, it may be harder, if only because you may have to concentrate on noticing when and what you're eating, instead of just eating it.

That was a major part of how I lost the weight at all. I had to pay attention to what I was eating *all the time*. Now it's kind of second nature to do that.
