Our trip to the allergist

So the good news is, according to the scratch test, Christopher can go back to having eggs and milk.  The bad news is that he is likely to develop seasonal allergies when he gets older.  Poor guy did not enjoy getting poked by the bifurcated needle.  (He called it the "teeny, tiny, little screwdriver.") But he did enjoy playing with photographs on the Nintendo DSi.  If I do nothing but use the DS to entertain my kids in Doctor's offices, it has been worth the money.   Of course, we had already filled the epi-pen prescription.  If you ever come to my house and have an anaphylactic reaction to something, it's good to know that 2 kids epi-pens = 1 adult dose, so we have you covered.

This weekend I played with my spinning wheels some more.  I have finished spinning all the shetland wool that I bought at the Homespun yarn party.  These were spun on the Ladybug:

See how the gooves in the spindles are different?  The closest one came with the Matchless, and the other came with the Ladybug.  The deeper groove is not liking the brake band I am using for Scotch tension.  Other than that, it was really fun to spin.  The roving was so loose and fluffy, and these are by far the thinnest singles I have ever spun.  I hope they hold together when I ply them.

Here is some Merino that I bought last time I went to Cloverhill.

and half of it now looks like this:

At first I was worried that it would be hard to draft because the fibers were so dense, but it all worked quite nicely.  I spun this on the Matchless, which I have set up in double drive.  I was having some problems with the drive band popping off every time I moved the fiber to another hook.  If I tightened the tension, it would be fine until I moved the fiber again, and then the intake just got way too strong.  I noticed that the drive band was frayed, so I replaced it with the spare that it came with, and it seems to be working just fine now.  This wheel is a single-treadle, which isn't my first choice, but it does spin very easily, and I am getting used to getting the wheel going in the direction I want it to go.  I am having so much fun with these wheels.  It is seriously cutting into my knitting time!

Speaking of which, my mom's birthday is today, and yesterday the kids and I went over for the evening, and I gave her some new socks that I finally finished.

It's already April, and knitting-wise, this is all I have done this year.  There just aren't enough hours in the day.  I'm looking forward to starting another top for myself: the "Whole Wheat Cardigan" for which my friend Maura bought me the pattern.  (I just couldn't let myself end that sentence with a preposition.  Sorry.

On Saturday, I baked brownies, whipped up some trifle, and layered some jello and fruit, and went to a cook-out at my in-laws to visit with my husband's cousin, who lives in San Francisco and was visiting with her boyfriend for the weekend.  We had a nice time catching up and getting some sun, when it wasn't too breezy.  I wish I had taken pictures of the chalk outlines they drew with my kids.  My father-in-law said his driveway looked like a murder scene!
