The explosive tempest

Hey guys!  I guess I'm a horrible friend -- haven't been keeping up at all with anyone on here :'( Wedding plans are going nicely -- less than four months now!

Anyway, had an uncommonly unusual dream last night and felt I should document it:

I was driving to work in the morning, but had decided to take a different route and ended up going south on Van Ness toward 180.  It was uncommonly dark for that time of morning, but I didn't think much of it until I saw a bunch of cars lined up on either side of the street and pulling off suddenly to park.  I looked ahead and saw a peculiar wreckage ahead, as if there were some explosion that ruined all the buildings and cars -- except whatever it was that caused the damage was still active and was very slowly widening its diameter of influence, for the wind there as swirling in a tempest and one by one the buildings and cars on the outer edge of the scene seemed to crush in upon themselves like tin cans as the destruction spread out in all directions.

I turned my car off onto a side street and parked about 50 yards away from the main street.  I was curious to get a closer look so I went back on foot to the scene, where the damage was continuing to expand.  I got right to the edge of the whatever-it-was as it creeped closer, and just before it reached me I thought, "What the heck am I doing??  This is going to kill me!"  So I turned to bolt, but just as I did I felt a concussive force that caused me to stumble and made it impossible to breathe.  I staggered and ran back up the street, with noticeable aid from the odd explosion behind me, made it back to my car, and drove away.

As I put more distance between myself and the wreckage, I noticed the sky quickly became a very clear blue, which suggested that the storm or explosion or whatever was causing the darkness I noticed earlier.  Then I passed Pastor Pete in his car (he was parked and apparently waiting for me), so I pulled over and got into his car with him.  He seemed annoyed that I was late to meet him and he started driving back toward the scene.  I eventually was able to explain to him that the reason I was late was because of an unusual occurence in the Tower District, which I proceeded to explain and (when we arrived) show him.  When we got out of the car to survey the wreckage, I noticed Bekki and my fiancee's step-brother Logan there as well, looking dismayed at the scene.  The four of us formed a caravan away from the scene and parked at a church about a half-mile away, where I think we were going to try to come up with some sort of plan to stop the whatever-it-was.  I don't remember anything after that.
