Sheep poop, removal thereof. (part the first, without pictures).

I'll figure out how to get pictures off the camera, probably by mailing them to myself. Bother. This means that the first posting will be without illustrations.

The first thing I did on getting home with the fleece (Monday a week ago), was to look up how to process it, and got the links I posted last week. Being an apartment dweller, (and dependant upon the machines in a laundromat), using a top loading washing machine to wash and rinse the wool was out of the question. Seriously, they're always front loaders. So the first link is out.

I have a single sink, not very deep, and so the third method, (sifting kitty litter pan) appealed to both my sense of laziness and my sense of "hey, neato, a different use for one of these." I did look at the second link for methodology.

I picked up the litter pans on Sunday, catching a 20% sale at the local Pets Plus (and chicken-liver treats for the great and wonderful mouse hunters).

At first I didn't think all the wool would fit, but it smooshed down and all fit. I squished it, lifted the pan, and oh ook the water was filthy, dumped, and replaced with more hot water. This time I left the wool in the soapy water for about 45 minute, dumped out more really brown and ugly water (seriously, I have pictures, they're on my celphone!), and put it more hot water in one of the pans and put the wool in for about an hour and half for "pre-rinse."

The real rinse starts as soon as I post this.
