The Tale of the Lost Keys
..................................................
I come to you with a funny yet true story of what happened to me last week with Damion, and as you all know already, him and I are very random and whenever we get together, you can expect some sort of adventure. Whether it's hiking or going to malls, anything goes when he comes here or I go the more than 50 mile journey up near Newburgh and Poughkeepsie.
Anyway, I went up there December 29th, a little annoyed with the fact that a certain someone hadn't called me to make plans to pick up their Christmas gifts, yes it's true I still have someone out there who hasn't gotten their gifts. It's either been I have been busy or they have and I feel bad too, I got some flowers too but they've long since withered away.
Getting back to the story, I decided to go up there on Thursday but I could only stay the night since I had to work early morning Friday. I wanted to give Damion some company since his cousin would be working, his brother and brother's girlfriend were going somewhere, and there wasn't really anything much to do on my end either.
I got there around 2 and we decided it was going to be a little late to go hiking up Mount Beacon, by the time we started our way down it would be dark. We got some ideas of places to go after sitting for a bit, and before you knew it we were on our way to Vanderbilt Mansion.
There's so many historic places around him, they should just make his whole county a historic site haha. I mean there's abandoned train tracks and buildings, birthplaces of people, and a ton of other things that are great to look at. I suggested that later in the evening that I'd try to take him out to a club, since I never went anywhere like that with him in all the times I went up there. We had to look up who might possibly have something to do once the trip to the mansion was done, but as you will read, we ended up doing something much different.
The mansion was huge, it's yard was big enough to put a football field in and have plenty of room for other things. I took some pictures of the building, it's gardens and pool area, and everything. After we went there we drove past a drive in theatre and FDR's house, and later on in the night we decided to go bowling with his cousin. I beat both of them, horray for me haha.
That's not the main part of the story though, it seems that when we got back to his house and we were helping his brother and his brother's girlfriend to put stuff in their car for their trip to North Carolina (they're moving there), I realized that I misplaced my car keys at some point in the journeys. I didn't remember checking my pockets the whole day for the keys, and I usually put them on the counter in his room so I don't lose them. I figured that I deserved to lose my keys, but now what the hell was I going to do 50 miles from home?
We went on a frantic search to all of the places we were during the day, and the search actually spilled into Friday morning and afternoon. We went to the Galleria Mall and found nothing, to the restaurant and stores we shopped at and found nothing, to the drive in theatre and bowling alley and you guessed it, nothing. Oh man, and this was the killer, we searched Vanderbilt Mansion for the keys, going through the yard and gardens and everything in the pouring rain with no luck. When the FDR house turned up nothing, I figured that I was screwed.
My mom gave me hell when I called her about it the night before, and poor Damion had to drive me all the way back home to get the spare set of keys. We were here for 10 minutes in what took an hour and a half to get here, and another hour and a half back. The spare key didn't have an extra keyless entry or remote start on it, so Joe had to disconnect the alarm on my car because it kept going off and wouldn't let me start the car (the alarm runs through the ignition).
It turned out to be a big mess, but we finally got the car started while we stood in the pouring rain. The thing that topped this all off was that I got home almost just in time to go to sleep for work in the morning, and the next day or maybe the day after I get a call from Damion. He found my car keys, in his brother's girlfriend's car. When I was helping her hold some trash bags from falling as we went in the car to get rid of them, they fell out of my pocket and onto her seat, and were now resting easily in North Carolina haha.
So now when Damion comes (whenever he decides to), he's going to bring them to me or something. Saturn wanted $110 to replace the lousy keyless entry, and I did have an extra remote for the starter too. Now all we have to do is check to make sure the wiring is right and everything, I'm laughing about it now but it sure was scary to find out that I was 50 miles away from home and possibly without a way back unless I found the keys or got the car towed, or somebody came to pick me up. I'm sure they wouldn't have been too happy about that, and with that, thus ends the tale of the lost keys...
