Summary: It hot so why not get ice cream? What could happen? Who'd know it would mean almost death?
"Vanilla milkshake fine?"
"Yeah whatever." Sungmin replied. He looked around the crowded ice cream shop. Though it was cooler than the outside, it was still hot. And there was no where to sit down. He eyed a five year old enviously as the little boy occupied a table all by himself as he used a bubble gum pink spoon to scoop out neon green ice cream. Had the kitty table been free, Sungmin would have gratefully sat down, no matter how stupid his legs stuck up at the miniature table. It was 100+ degrees outside and it was way too hot to be alive right about now. He didn't know how people could sit at the tables outside by the black railing.
Cold bit into his arm and he turned to see Kyuhyun holding a vanilla shake out to him. Now Sungmin had wished he had asked for strawberry. Oh well. It was cold and that's all that matter. Sungmin immediately grabbed the shake and grabbed a straw to put in as Kyuhyun paid a lady with a pin saying "Please be patient, I'm in training." Sipping gratefully on the cold substance, the pair headed for the door toward the car. Kyuhyun headed for the driver seat and Sungmin headed to the other side. Something was off. Sungmin looked toward the busy street parallel to him that was a mere ten feet away. He then turned to the on-coming traffic.
It was coming at him. Like a horrifying monster that reared up him head that noticed him and then charged for him. Paralyzed, he stood confused. The bang of railing snapping as the car hit the said railing that ran alongside of the ice cream shop, woke him to his senses. He ran. Seeing the situation from seemingly above, it felt like a bull chasing the clown. Sungmin rounded to the other side of Kyuhyun's car and watched the rogue car slide to a stop. The car had a rearview mirror missing, half a bumper lying ten feet behind it, and scratches along the tan paint.
Heart pounding, body shaking, Sungmin leaned against the car for support. He gazed back at the car and then looked at the pale Kyuhyun. Sungmin bit his lip and rubbed his eyes. Kyuhyun leaned forward and wiped the tears away.
"Are you ok?" Kyuhyun rubbed Sungmin's shoulder. Sungmin nodded absentmindedly.
"Go get some water!" The employees of the ice cream place had come out and were trying to help in any way, shape, or form. Kyuhyun ran inside to grab bottles of water just as Sungmin reached out to hug the younger. As Kyuhyun ran inside, Sungmin looked to the railing. It was broken into pieces. His heart leapt as he remembered there were people by the railing. Not just people, but children. A mid-aged woman, most likely a mother of one of the kids in the group surrounding her, lay on the ground. She was unconscious. The group of people surrounded her and one of the employees of the ice cream shop yelled “give her some air.” Sungmin saw a kid's mouth move but heard no sound. The girl was crying as she grabbed her mother's shirt and tugged at it. Kyuhyun dashed past him and headed for the unconscious woman. Sungmin diverted his attention to the road. Four or five cars were in a line. The back three suffered from scratches. The one first in the line has two flat tires on right side. The right headlight laid a few feet in front of the car. An old man leaned over the old woman in the car. The woman gripped her head and the man tried to console her. Sungmin watched the couple again before taking a sip of shake that had laid forgotten in his hands. As the substance trickled down his throat, sirens were in the distance. Sungmin looked at the rogue car again and saw a late teen get out of the car shakily. Her legs gave out beneath her and she situated herself on the sidewalk.
Fire engines came down the street along with an ambulance. It was a blur after that. Paramedics helped the collapsed lady while more paramedics helped the old couple. The ice cream workers offered ice cream to the kids. Sungmin just kept an eye on Kyuhyun as he tired to help. A police officer led the teen of the rogue car to a bench in front of Kyuhyun's car and asked her what happened.
"I saw it was a red light so I slammed on my breaks, but the brakes failed. Then I tired to swerve to the side to avoid hitting the cars in front of me," She explained. Her whole body shook and she gripped her cell phone as her knuckles turned white. Sungmin closed his eyes and saw the car hitting the railing again and heading seemingly head on toward him. The sound of the collision of the railing erupted in his ears as if it had just happened again. An arm wrapped around his shoulders and squished them together.
"Are you sure you're alright?" Kyuhyun asked again. Sungmin gripped his shake and twisted his face slightly to look at Kyuhyun.
"Yeah," Sungmin croaked as he tried to hold back tears, "but I was so scared I was going to die."
"Me too. The car was only five feet from you. I thought I almost lost you, Min." Sungmin turned into the younger embrace.
"It felt like the time you were in the accident--"
"Except you weren’t hit and you aren't injured like I was," Kyuhyun interrupted. "And thank god for that." Kyuhyun leaned forward and placed a kiss on the elder's forehead and smiled.
A/N: As for “A Year After…” I have been so busy. I’ll list my excuses in that instead of here. Anyways, this actually happened to me today and to deal (probably the wrong way) with the post-traumatic symptoms, I wrote a SuJu fanfic based on it. I was in Sungmin’s position. I’m pretty sure no one was hurt. The unconscious woke up soon after as she wasn’t rushed to the hospital. As for the old couple, the lady was fine; she just had a bit of whiplash. I’m just glad that I didn’t get hit. ^^;; But it was seriously scary. The car was five feet from me. The person I was with suspected that the rogue driver panicked and hit the accelerator instead of the break. Anyways, I live on~ And thank goodness for that!
